Azores surfing: Ahoi Surfer at Sao Roque (ENG/ PT/ DE)

The closest surf spot near of Ponta Delgada

"So, where can I walk by feed from here?"

That's how I asked myself when I recently visited Sao Miguel.
Everyone here drives a car, because it gets tedious by walk.
Even buses are rare. There are a few, but when they come and whether they come is always questionable.
Well, I faced this challenge, because I heard that in the neighbouring village "Sao Roque" was the nearest beach.
So I asked straight away where I had to walk and started walking.
I recorded this way 15 times faster in my video.
The route is pleasant to walk, always along the coast. To the right the sea and to the left the cars.
The way is well developed and even has a bicycle path. Everyone who likes to cycle, skate or run has a good ground here.
It took about 1 hour and 20 minutes until I arrived directly at the beach (the second of a total of 3 beaches). Yes, Sao Roque has 3 beaches.
The first one you see is rather for sunbathing, there are few surfers here and no beach bar.

The second one is the most surfed beach and has a surf school right on the street.

The third one also has a beach cafe, but few surf there.

Since the distance was 4-5 km, I think, but long, I stayed at the second beach and watched the kite surfers. Unfortunately there was not much going on on the water that day, so I could only present you the two kite surfers. But in the main session its overfilled here. At least 50 surfers are on the water.
The good thing is that the water of the Atlantic here on the azores is much warmer than elsewhere. But if you surf here for the first time you should always have a local surfer with you. Many have already lost their lives because they misjudged the water. Only mentioned in passing, if someone wants to surf here especially.

If I should describe the beach of São Roque, then as follows:
Sao Roque's beach characteristic is the coarse gravel and of course the volcanic sand, which is black.

The beach occupies a very large part of the bay of Machico. The beach also offers its visitors showers and toilets, which I find very good.
Also lifeguards are there during the bathing season, there is a first aid facility and even changing rooms. Despite all the efforts, there is always a lot of garbage on the beach that is either made by the visitors or washed up. But this is, I think, a global problem.
I hope I have given you a good insight.
Leave me a short feedback. I would like it.

Deixe-me um pequeno feedback. Eu gostaria.
