The Immigrant Monument

During a walk I noticed this very emotional work of art.
So I stopped and took a closer look at it.
A family, father, mother, child classically represented. The mother, centrally placed in the middle, holds both her husband's hand and her child's with the other hand. The child looks up at the mother and the father stands there with his arm raised, protective and advancing.
At first I couldn't do too much with it, it was an emotional picture, but I couldn't put it into words, so I took a look at the sign...
It is dedicated to the immigrants...or the emigrants....

The immigrant monument was made in 1999 by Alavaro Raposo Franca and is located on the "Praca 5 de Outubro", which was before known as the "Campo de Sao Francisco".

This monument is made of several materials, both concrete steles and stone mosaics and of course the three large bronze figures and it represents an emigrant family that looks to a better future. The male bronze statue shows emotionally to the west ... to America.
What else...it's always the States isn't it?!
Now the question came up, many emigrated or immigrated to America, but this question remained unanswered so far.

In any case the monument is supposed to be a kind of homage to all the cities on the island of Sao Miguel and to the Azores as a whole.
