TRIP TO CALGARY, ALBERTA

Calgary is the most western point I made it so far while being in Canada. The initial plan was to go to Vancouver but did not happen yet. I only stayed in Alberta for a few days and I can't say I was blown away by its capital. It's a nice city but way different than Montreal or Toronto. Yes, it does have a tower, as you can see it in the photo above!

+15 Above Ground Skywalk is a network or a corridor that connects different parts of the city, allowing people to reach certain areas without going outside. In winter, when the temperature drops way below zero, it is a blessing to be able to walk without wearing a coat on. The +15 is something similar to the Montreal's Underground City.

The +15 stretches on a length of 18 kilometres (11 miles) and has 62 bridges linking various buildings around the downtown area. The skywalks are close to 15 feet (approximately 4.5 metres) above street level.

What I did love in Calgary were the artworks I discovered while walking down the streets. They were magnificent! Have a look at this Iron Horse made completely out of scrap metal! Here's a close up!

And another side view, as one photo was not doing justice to its beauty! Its creator, Russell Zeid is an incredible artist!

Another thing that I absolutely loved seeing was this oversized Wonderland, a 12 metre high unique sculpture sitting out in front of The Bow building. It was realized by Jaume Plensa, a famous artist who has erected similar public sculptures in New York, London and Dubai.

I was surprised to see these original tree pots that made me think of cupcakes.

The city is still growing, therefore there are lots of constructions going on. If you stroll down the streets you can see plenty of skyscrapers coming up and cranes right next to them.

The Prince's Island park located in the middle of the city was amazing. It had a beautiful playground, lots of pathways and hiking trails along with flower gardens, waterfalls and picnic areas.

Being close to the Bow River helped us tolerate the heat better. There were plenty of canoes and geese on the river.

We spent an entire day in the park and had a great time. In the evening we had one more walk on the banks of the river and then headed to a restaurant.

This is my failed attempt of taking a photo of my son. All that I captured were the lights on his shoes. I thought it looked funny. He says it was a ghost caught on film.

As soon as we got closer to China town and felt the smell of food, we all got hungry. We dined in a Chinese restaurant and had some delicious food. Don't ask me what we ordered because I have no clue!

On the way back to the hotel I took some photos of the Calgary tower.

In some of them, the tower looked like an UFO!
