Shorncliffe, a Refreshing Afternoon Under the Trees by the Sea

Shorncliffe, a Refreshing Afternoon Under the Trees by the Sea

January 2022 · 4 min read · Brisbane City

Good Afternoon to all, hope everyone's having an awesome weekend. Sometimes after a busy week at work, when the weekend comes around you can be drained of energy and feeling a bit lethargic. I felt a bit like that this morning, however on days like that its important to get out of the house and get a change of scenery at least.

So this afternoon we jumped in the car and went for a 20 minute drive to one of our favourite spots to relax, refresh, and revitalise.

Under the trees, in the breeze, by the sea's.

Welcome to the Shorncliffe Waterfront. Shorncliffe is a small coastal suburb located in north-east Brisbane. The population is pretty small, but its an extremely popular spot possessing a picturesque coastal walk towards its neighbouring suburb Sandgate. It also possesses a piece that is popular for fishing, as well as boat ramps as an entry point into the ocean. While others just love the ocean views, the cool breeze, and the beautiful large trees spread across the area.

Here’s an example of one of the massive trees. Providing shade for different groups of people enjoying picnics, and Sunday afternoons.

We parked in Shorncliffe and went for a walk towards Sandgate. It was pretty hot out today in the sun, but that coastal breeze was heaven as we made our way around the track.

A view of the ocean on the right, and some large trees on the left. There’s seats and picnic tables located the whole way round, perfect place to catch a good sunset too.

In the distance there’s a small marina with a number of boats stored there. I’d say a few are fishing boats, as its pretty popular in this area.

Whenever we come to Shorncliffe, our trip isn't complete without a visit to our favourite Fish and Chip shop. The first time we ever came here the line was out the door and down the road. So instinctively we had to see what all the fuss was about.

The Shelley Inn, located on the waterfront. We missed the lunchtime rush thankfully, so didn’t take them long to sort us out.

As you can see we weren’t the only ones enjoying the famous fish and chips.

We found a nice spot under a tree by the water. The rest is history.

This is our friend Trevor, he’s a friendly fella. He spent a while chilling with us, top bloke.

After we finished eating and relaxing under the trees we continued our walk towards the Shorncliffe Pier. The pier is the most popular finishing spot around here, don't know why though because everytime I've fished there I haven't caught a thing 🤣 That's why I now go to the fish and chip shop instead.

Looks like we found more of Trevor’s friends as we continued. Here’s one of the boat access points to the ocean that I was talking about.

A bit of father and son bonding going down here. Feed a kid a fish you’ll feed him for a day, teach him to fish and you’ll feed him for life.

There’s also a nice little Golden sanded beach here, and a popular swimming spot especially for the children.

There's also a few barbecue areas that I forgot to take a picture of by the pier, with heaps of shaded seating. Awesome place for a party, or a catch up with a few friends.

After relaxing at the pier for a while we made a return walk to our car once again soaking in the views.

Most of all we enjoy the calmness of this place, and the refreshing vibe that comes with the trees and the ocean breeze. It's a perfect place to revitalise on a hot summers day, and we definitely left feeling more energised than when we arrived.

Hope you've enjoyed the virtual walk around one of our favourite relaxation spots near to us.

Finish your weekends on a high, and here's to another good week ahead ✌
