If what you think about Indonesia is only lush rice paddy fields, exotic wild life and tranquil yoga experience, you're missing out. To be fair, when a friend from abroad ask me what to do, the idea of going to shopping centers never comes to mind. That is because there are also plenty nature activities that my friend wouldn't find back home. So, I never recommend it to them. However, after seeing my friends was in awe of the shopping centers, I think it's worth to check up and put into travel plan.
Undeniably, some malls are identical. They often have similar stores and possibly foreign brands. However there are also local businessman inside the shopping mall, which you can explore.
In my opinion, going to shopping centers around Asia can actually give better experience mingling with the locals and even taste better quality local foods. Sure, it is not going to be as cheap as street vendors but shopping around Asia offers one of a kind experience. For instance, if you are visiting Yogyakarta, you can try Lippo Mall.
There are not many vendors in this mall. Its advantage is located along the bustling street of Yogyakarta. It's reachable by any kind of transportation. So, if you want to have a relaxed stroll, visiting this mall won't hurt.
This mall is available in many metropolitan cities in Indonesia. Some are bigger than the others. I find that the one in Yogyakarta is particularly smaller. In recent years, they have added a new attraction called " Seven Sky", a hip hangout space for youngsters.
The seven sky is most recommended place to check in this Mall. The spot is located at the highest floor of the mall. It's an open space that offers breath-taking views of Yogyakarta's landscape. There are also many selfie's prop if you love taking pictures.
Below is the picture taken from the rooftop. It was a cloudy day with a periodic drizzle.
Seven sky has pleny food vendors and it gets lively after 6 p.m. There are various options to pick from local to international cuisine. For instance, this Korean corn dog stall.
I got this corndog with cheese and BBQ sauce with sausage for 20k.

It was my first time tasting a corndog. I would say, I am not really fond of it, mainly because it was deep battered fried snacks.
Other than korean, there are also Indonesian seafood, indonesian meatball, and drinks from coffee to bobba.
Overall, it was a pleasant window shopping experience. The place is reachable by any transportation, the staffs and clerks are friendly, and the prices are affordable. So, this place should fit your travel budget.
