Eater's Guide : Seven Sky Yogyakarta

February 2020 · 3 min read · Yogyakarta

Experience unique atmosphere at Yogyakarta’s cheap rooftop dining.

Seven sky features one of a kind dining experience set atop a roof terrace of Lippo Mall overlooking the cityscape of Yogyakarta. Before the sun sets down, your eyes will be delighted by the majestic volcano mountain, Merapi and the hills in the southwest guarding the city.

Unlike many rooftop dining experiences, Seven sky is an open space accompanied with properties and murals spice up your selfie game. This area is a #1 destination for youth in Yogyakarta to spend their afternoon especially during the weekend.

With plenty of vendors to dine in, your palate will be delighted with plenty of international options from Japanese, Korea, to Western Menu. Most importantly, all menus are offered at a very reasonable price.

Enjoy watching the sky turn to shade of reds and yellow while having a beer and chilling with the people you love. As there is a vendor selling various brands named beer.

As the night gets darker, the bustling sound of cookery and the live music will entertain your evening while feasting on your favorite menu offered at a reasonable price.

I visited the place last week during a rain shower. The sky was so dark but I was still able to capture some pictures of the mountain. The area was wet and slippery. I couldn’t really enjoy the experience. So I really advise anyone to visit this spot during summer nights or anytime when the weather forecast is not predicting a rain shower.

It is important to note that the fastest way to reach the rooftop is through the lift. The problem is, the lift will be packed after 5 pm, so it’s best to come before 5 pm. That way, you won’t have to wait too long only to get into the rooftop. The rooftop is also accessible through the staircase but it is not recommended as it might be too steep and inefficient.
In this place, I ordered Ramen and seafood in skewers. The ramen cost around 10,000 idr with 5000idr for extra cheese. Meanwhile the seafood price varies starting from 5,000 idr to 20,000/skewer. I ordered two within 5,000 idr price range and 10,000 idr mix seafood in a long skewers.

The food quality is decent but it can be a bit of gambling. I would say not all food suits my palate but they are quite decent for the price offered. Frankly speaking, at first I thought it was going to cost me arm and leg. All in all, the dining experience was quite an experience.
