Window Shopping- East Java

Window Shopping- East Java

January 2020 · 3 min read · Indonesia

As usual, early-mid January is my time for a bit of travel. It is always marking where and how I might spend the rest of the year. Sometimes I travel three times in a year, sometimes two, sometimes even more. This year, I am not entirely sure. As of now, I am exploring the eastern part of Java, Indonesia. Unlike many of my previous travels where I spend my time visiting natural landscape, this time I am trying visiting urban sites, like a shopping mall.

I went to a mid-sized town called Mojokerto with my relative and her family. Honestly, there are numerous interesting historical sites even trekking area. But with the time limitation, I might need to come back later to check out the sites and the waterfall trek.

We went on Saturday afternoon, as the journey will take approximately 40 minutes from our place. I didn’t expect much to see anything nice on the way. There were only trucks and cars but as my uncle steered through a large toll road, I started seeing beautiful scenery. The road was calm and only a few riders pass through it. I spotted few drag racers across the street, it’s an illegal thing to do but still a common practice and ways to have fun for youngsters.

Seeing how calming the environment and scenery made me light up in happiness. I spent the last three months in my room seeing walls and screens. Then I saw a misty mountain with green lush rice field, that was wholesome. At least, my bit of hard-work paid off by seeing this landscape.

Then, 20 minutes later we reached the basement of the shopping mall. I would say, shopping malls offer the same thing, the same brand and this one was no different. I am use to go to shopping malls with sweatpants and hoodie for groceries back at my place, it was a normal thing to do. But there, I saw everyone is well-dressed. We spent circling around the place visiting Mr DIY, Miniso and finally going to the arcade game section.

Arcade game has always been my all-time-favorite entertainment at shopping mall. I would rather spend my time there than window shopping or waiting someone shops. I tried plenty games in this arcade game, including this bingo part. I got bingo and also higher ticket counts too. At the end of the game, I collected over 500 tickets.

There was nothing really exciting about this shopping mall.nor the whole trip. Maybe next time, I will have to come back with more proper plan. There are historical sites I've yet to see and explored.

And that was it. I spent several days away from the chain to take a break from my routine and visiting the east. I might be back online regularly as soon as the connection stabilizes.
