January 2020 · 3 min read · North Central Province

Hello guys, welcome all. Today I'm going to share another great outdoor memory where I visited Minneriya national park in Sri Lanka. I had visited 5 times in Minneriya. Those every moments I could see more elephants than other animals. Kumana national park very popular for bird species. Yala famous for various wildlifers. But Minneriya and Kawudulla popular for large elephants.

The Minneriya National Park is located in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka. The park is a breeding ground for elephants in the Matale, Polonnaruwa and Trincomalee districts during the dry season.

The peacock very common bird in whole island. I could see more peacocks after the entrance.

We entered inside to Minneriya forest from safari jeep. We can't walk inside forest. Only we can see visuals since safari jeep.

There are several routes to Minneriya. We reached Dambulla on the Colombo-Kurunegala road, crossed Dambulla to the Habarana junction, then turned right and entered the Minneriya National Park through Moragas Lake.

Woohoo....there were so many elephants. They spend very relax moment with ate grass. But we destroyed their freedom life visiting through safari jeeps. But those elephants respect us and warmly welcomed. But vehicle noises and our camera flashers harmful to them.

Now we were very close to these elephants. This group had baby elephants. They were pretty nice with action. We could see Minneriya lake.

One of the falcon fly on the lake for find good hunt (fish). Falcons have sharply eye for catch fish.

Another better sharply bird down to the water in Lake. His eyes goes around the forest. If someone attack to him, prepared for flying over the sky.

I don't know how to pronounce this bird species. But name called *Kirala* from Sinhala language. His noise very loud and bitter.

A large number of Sri Lankan elephants are attracted to the grasslands on the edges of the reservoir during the dry season. The Minneriya Lake is a large herd of elephants but contributes to sustainability. They migrate from Wasgamuwa National Park and take shelter from the food and forests of the park.

The Minneriya Reservoir is an important habitat for large aquatic birds. Minneriya is a habitat for many resident and migratory bird species. Eleven endangered species of birds have been reported from this national park. The reason for the declaration of this area as a protected area is to protect the catchment area of the Minneriya Lake and the surrounding wildlife. After spend 2 hour here in Minneriya we came to the entrance. Thanks for visiting.
