The journey in search of the fog-covered Dumbanagala in Sri Lanka...

February 2020 · 2 min read

Hello Wonderful Steem Community,

Welcome to today's my travel blog. I previously said I had more hiking and travel experience in Sri Lanka. If you're my follower you knew already Knuckles mountain range is a most beautiful and various bio-diversity forest here. The Knuckles Reserve has many peaks and mountain ranges. So today I'm going to share another difficult but most memorable climb the Dumbanagala mountain.

When we came to right direction of the Dumbanagala there was more fogs. So we couldn't clearly see in front of our path. Dumbanagala, one of the Knuckles reserves in Kandy District of the Central Province, is one of the best in the country. The guide books state that the height of the Dumbanagala Peak is 1644 meters.

We traveled by train from Colombo to Kandy and then proceeded to the Meemure road from Hunnasgiriya town on the Kandy-Mahiyangana road. You can reach the Dumbanagala Peak just a little above the village of Lulwatta.

We entered the jungle and started our journey through a jungle with normal trees, but for a short distance we were forced to kneel by reeds. Going up the range to the south end, we again found a small footprint through the jungle.
We found clear stone in this location. It continues to the Dumbanagala Peak. This is a footpath set by somebody or mountain climbers. Because with a well-cut knife the trees had cut the road first.

There was various species important trees. Someone very first time I saw. Someone already saw and knew. Thorns, reeds, and thick jungles have no clear path to the top of the mountain, nor any definite place to access the jungle. So it is best to find a guide.

After about 3 hours we reached the top of the mountain. Fog gave us less than two minutes to see the surroundings. The mountain and its surroundings were again covered with fog, revealing the name Dumbanagala.

Dumbanagala is a beautiful place covered with fog most of the day. From here you can see many hills in Knuckles. And the area of Victoria is clearly visible.
