What makes Ilocos unique: Places to see and visit

May 2020 · 3 min read · Ilocos Norte

What are the best places to visit here in Ilocos? and what makes it unique I will show you several places that I love and had an amazing experience.

Ilocanos are known for having good slills at cooking. They are known for the Pinakbet and Bagnet dish. Ilocanos are hardworking, simple and characterize as 'kuripot" or wise spender.

First place to visit is Calle Crisologo

You can have a relaxing experience in this place. In the picture you can see a "Kalesa" that is used to tour the tourist in the place. This place reminds me of living in the past because of the architectures, buildings, and ambiance.

One of the stores where you can buy souvenirs like T-shirt, key chains, pastries, peanuts, vinegar(pinakurat), bags, jams, stickers, and many more.

There are ice cream vendors. The ice cream really taste good. I still remeber when we ate ice cream together with my friends. We are eating then suddenly an air pass to us that smells like horse. No offense but this is one of the funny experience I had in this place.

Second place is Paoay Church

You can have a visit in the Paoay Churh. One of the strongest church in our country. Paoay Church withstand many natural disaster like storm and earthquakes. Make sure to bring your umbrella because it will be really hot especially if you will go here in summer time.

Here's how it looks like inside the Church. You can go around to see some of the saints statue and touch them/wipe them with your handkerchief. Touching the saints statue with your handkerchief became one of our traditions believing that it gives healing and blessings.

There are taho and manggo vendors near the church.

MALACAÑANG OF THE NORTH

Malacañang of the North became the resisdence of the Marcoses in Ilocos Norte. It is also called Malacañang ti Amianan, a gift given by the first lady, Imelda Marcos to his husband on his 60th birthday. It is the perfect place to see the view of the Paoay Lake.

What's inside the Malacañang of the North?

You can see their furnitures, photos, bedrooms, and some arts. It is just like visiting your friend in their house.

Next place is Cape Bojeador LightHouse

This light house is located in a high spot in mountain. You will have to ride a tricycle and travel for about five minutes. Here is the funny part that we did in this place. After we enjoyed the nice view at the top, we decided not to ride tricycle because we are trying to save money. We walk downhill and we thought it would be just easy. If i remember it right, we walk for twenty minutes. It made us all really hungry.

Bangui windmill the place where you can see big fans that are used to produce electricity. Once you get closer in this place, expect to experience a very windy feeling. My hair became messy in this place due to the strong wind. I did not have a decent photo in this place because of my hair.

Souvenirs to consider once you visit this place. I bought lots of keychains for my friends in the other town, but I misplaced or accidentally left them in the restroom. I only realized when we are on the road.

Last and best place to visit during summer season.

PAGUDPUD

I am proud to say that this is one of the best beach in my country. It's because of its fresh water and your eyes will not be irritated once you swim. This beach is like a mini Boracay Beach.
