Here on Steemit I already have posted about the impressive street art of Penang and Ipoh. But Ipoh has much more to offer than just street art.
The Town Hall of Ipoh
The city of 673,000 is located in the state of Perak, about 200 kilometers north of Kuala Lumpur. It's already one of the largest cities in Malaysia, but has hardly the flair of a real big city such as 'KL'. Ipoh kind of feels more like a small town, especially in the area of the old town.
Nearly 70% of Ipoh's people are ethnic Chinese so you can find plenty of Chinese temples in and around the city. And a visit is definitely worth it!
Beautiful garden in the Sam Poh Tong Temple
The biggest temple highlight is certainly the Kek Lok Tong cave temple. It's located a bit out of town, but definitely worth a visit. You can visit this along with the other Chinese temples that are also nearby. Just ask a taxi driver if he can drive you around and negotiate the price in any case.
Entrance to the Kek Lok Tong Cave Temple
Not only the temple with its Buddhist statues inside is impressive, also the huge garden in the middle of the rocky landscape is beautiful. Especially in the morning locals like to come here for jogging, relaxing and meditation.
But not only the temples of Ipoh are worth a visit. The old town with its many colonial houses you can explore perfectly on foot and next to the small lanes and historic buildings, everywhere there's some street art to be discovered. To relax, just sit in one of the cafes and enjoy the atmosphere. Ipoh is known nationwide for its delicious White Coffee.

What I also liked about Ipoh was that the city is just authentic. There is hardly any tourism despite the many attractions. The people are friendly and you have a nice mix of cultures, because besides the temples there are also mosques and churches in Ipoh.
Of course, food should not be missed! In addition to the Chinese-influenced cuisine, there are also classic Malaysian dishes to try. Very popular in this city is the dish Tauge Ayam, which you should definitely try. Chicken in a soy sauce with spring onions and bean sprouts does not sound necessarily spectacular, but it tastes great. The number one place to go is certainly Lou Wong.

I liked it very much in Ipoh and I would come back anytime. Especially if you visit the Cameron Highlands and you want to travel further to Penang, Ipoh is the perfect stopover. One to two days should be enough to explore the charming city in Malaysia.
