Phuket: a walk through Phuket Town

May 2018 · 2 min read · Phuket

The Thai island of Phuket is known for its wide variety of beaches - an ideal destination for a beach holiday. Phuket is eclectic, with beaches and countless of other activities and attractions to discover: viewpoints, sunset bars, stunning temples and more.

But that's not all. On my second Phuket visit I visited Phuket Town and explored it. Until then, I've always thought that the town is boring and has nothing special to offer. Wrong thought!

Phuket Town is great! The town is absolutely worth a visit, be it as a day trip or overnight. Why? I'll tell you right away.

My favorite attractions in Phuket Town

The biggest highlight of Phuket Town is the old town itself! You can leisurely take a stroll through the old town and see the colorful houses and small streets. They are a really nice photo opportunity and there is something to discover behind every corner. Also, the Queen Sirikit Park, which was built in honor of the Queen, you should not miss.

I also really liked the temple Wat Khao Rang, which you can find in Phuket Town as well. When I was there, only few other tourists were there and it was very quiet. The temple complex with the big golden Buddha statue is really beautiful. You will additionally find some impressive statues of Hindu gods.

Only 10 minutes away from the Wat Khao Rang is the Khao Rang Viewpoint. From up there you have a magnificent view of the surroundings. You can make yourself comfortable in one of the cafes or restaurants.

Most of these sights in Phuket Town can be explored on foot. You will not need more than a day to complete it. However, the way to the temple and the viewpoint can be a bit exhausting and can even take up to 45 minutes. It is easier to take a taxi/tuk-tuk.

Have you already been to Phuket Town? Anything else that I should visit next time?
