As already mentioned in the last post, a few weeks ago I did a beautiful and promising mountain tour in the Allgäu Alps. The starting point for this tour was the Starzlachklamm, a unique natural spectacle for the whole family. I already told you about the gorge in the first part. Today I want to report about the mountain tour over the Burgberger Hörnle up to the summit of the Grünten, the "Guardian of the Allgäu". 🌄

Wie im letzten Beitrag bereits erwähnt, habe ich vor ein paar Wochen eine wunderschöne und aussichtsreiche Bergtour in den Allgäuer Alpen unternommen. Startpunkt für diese Tour war die die Starzlachklamm, ein einzigartiges Naturschauspiel für die ganze Familie. Über die Schlucht habe ich euch bereits im ersten Teil berichtet. Heute geht es mit der Bergtour über das Burgberger Hörnle hinauf zum Gipfel des Grünten, dem „Wächter des Allgäus“. 🌄

The name "Guardian of the Allgäu", of the 1740 meter high mountain comes among other things because it stretches with its breadth of more than 5 kilometers across the whole Oberallgäu and of course because of its striking location directly in front of the Alps. The Grünten is located near Burgberg in the Allgäu in the Allgäu Alps in Bavaria. 🗻

Den Namen „Wächter des Allgäus“ trägt der 1740 Meter hohe Berg unteranderem weil er sich mit seiner Breite von über 5 Kilometer quer durchs ganze Oberallgäu zieht und natürlich auch wegen seiner markanten Lage direkt vor dem Alpenrand. Der Grünten liegt bei Burgberg im Allgäu in den Allgäuer Alpen in Bayern. 🗻

First it was a bit steep, partly secured with wire ropes, up to the Burgberger Hörnle, the "little brother" of the Grünten. The climb to the 1497 meter high summit is only suitable for experienced. Sure-footedness and a head for heights are definitely a must. But the climb is worthwhile, from here you have a beautiful panoramic view of Sonthofen, Immenstadt in the Allgäu, the Alpsee, the Nagelfluhkette and the beautiful Allgäu Alps. 👣

Zuerst ging es etwas steil, teilweise mit Drahtseilen gesichert, hinauf zum Burgberger Hörnle, dem „kleinen Bruder“ des Grünten. Der Aufstieg auf den 1497 Meter Hohen Gipfel ist nur für geübte geeignet. Trittsicherheit und Schwindelfreiheit sind auf jeden Fall ein Muss. Der Anstieg lohnt sich aber, von hier oben hat man eine wunderschöne Panoramaaussicht auf Sonthofen, Immenstadt im Allgäu, den Alpsee, die Nagelfluhkette und die wunderschönen Allgäuer Alpen. 👣

As there was a short-term change in the weather and the clouds above me became darker and darker, after a short break I made my way to the Grüntenhaus. A mountain inn with cabin-like character, where you can fortify yourself with delicious regional food and drinks. The Grüntenhaus was once the first hotel in the Allgäu Alps, which was opened in 1854. Later it was only used as an inn. After a delicious refreshment, I went on to the summit of Grünten. 🏠

Da es einen kurzzeitigen Wetterumschwung gab und die Wolken über mir immer dunkler wurden, habe ich mich nach einer kurzen Pause gleich weiter zum Grüntenhaus gemacht. Ein Berggasthaus mit Hüttencharakter, bei der man sich mit leckeren regionalen Speisen und Getränken stärken kann. Das Grüntenhaus war einst das erste Hotel in den Allgäuer Alpen, das 1854 eröffnet wurde. Später wurde es dann nur noch als Gasthaus verwendet. Nach einer leckeren Stärkung ging es dann auch schon weiter zum Gipfel des Grünten. 🏠

A special distinguishing feature of the Grünten is the radio tower of the Bavarian Broadcast (BR). With a height of 95 meters, you can see the radio transmitter from afar and thus can easily determine the "Guardian of the Allgäu". Since 1951, the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation has been supplying the broadcasts in Swabia, Bavaria and as far as the Bodensee region with radio and television. Among other things, the radio stations "Antenne Bayern", "SWR1 Baden Württemberg" and "SWR3" are broadcast here. 📡

Ein besonderes Erkennungsmerkmal des Grünten ist der Sendeturm des Bayrischen Rundfunks (BR). Mit einer Höhe von 95 Metern erkennt man den Rundfunksender schon von weitem und kann somit ganz einfach den „Wächter des Allgäus“ bestimmen. Der Bayrische Rundfunk versorgt mit dem Sendeturm seit 1951 weite Teile in Schwaben, Bayern bis hin zur Bodensee-Region mit Hörfunk und Fernsehen. Ausgestrahlt werden hier unteranderem die Radiosender „Antenne Bayern“, „SWR1 Baden Württemberg“ und „SWR3“. 📡

Another distinguishing feature of the "Guardian of the Allgäu" is the Mountaineering Monument. The highly visible monument was built in 1924 to commemorate the dead of Hunter Regiment 3. Back then the first mountain fighter regiment of the German military history. That the monument could be built, many tons of rock had to be blown away, reducing the height of the summit by 4 meters. 🌄

Ein weiteres besonderes Erkennungsmerkmal des „Wächter des Allgäus“, ist das Gebirgsjägerdenkmal. Das weit sichtbare Denkmal wurde 1924 zur Erinnerung an die Toten des Jägerregiments 3 erbaut. Dem damals ersten Gebirgsjägerregiment der deutschen Militärgeschichte. Damit das Denkmal gebaut werden konnte, mussten viele Tonnen Gestein weggesprengt werden, wodurch die Höhe des Gipfels um 4 Meter reduziert wurde. 🌄

In addition to the Mountaineering Monument another small plaque was also attached. It is to commemorate the motorcyclist Viktor Söllner, who in 1949 was the first to conquer the summit with a standard motorcycle "Imme R100". A strong performance, I think. 😲

Neben dem Gebirgsjägerdenkmal wurde ebenfalls eine weitere, kleine Gedenktafel angebracht. Sie soll an den Motoradfahrer Viktor Söllner erinnern, der im Jahre 1949 als erste den Gipfel mit einem serienmäßigen Motorrad „Imme R100“ bezwungen hat. Eine starke Leistung wie ich finde. 😲

After a leisurely break on the summit of the Grünten, where you have a magnificent view of the Allgäu Alps, I continued with the descent on the Schwand Alpe and Kehr Alpe. At the Gasthof Alpenblick, I went back through the beautiful Starzlachklamm back to the parking lot. Nach einer gemütlichen Pause auf dem Gipfel des Grünten, auf dem man eine herrliche Aussicht auf die Allgäuer Alpen hat, ging es weiter mit dem Abstieg über die Schwand Alpe und Kehr Alpe. Am Gasthof Alpenblick vorbei ging es dann wieder durch die wunderschöne Starzlachklamm zurück zum Parkplatz. Da die einzigartige Schlucht ein so vielseitiges Naturerlebnis bietet, habe ich einen einzelnen Bericht über die Klamm erfasst, den ihr hier nachlesen könnt. 🌄

Alles in allem ein wunderschöner und erlebnisreicher Tag. Von einer einzigartigen Schlucht hinauf zu zwei aussichtsreichen Gipfeln. Ich hoffe euch haben die Impressionen der Tour genauso gefallen wie mir. Evtl. konnte ich ja den einen oder anderen begeistern in ferner Zukunft die wunderschönen Allgäuer Alpen zu besuchen. 🌄 😉
