Notes on Croatia

The First impressions

What comes to mind after arrival? I look around, inhale the warm, aromatic air. Everything around me has some strange scale. The word comes to mind - small. Home small airport. Narrow road. Low power pylons. Small hotel room. Small grocery store, etc.

But a very large buffet at the hotel!

I leave my wife in the room to unpack the suitcases. And I grab a notebook and run to the shore. I have about half an hour...

Old cities.

Narrow streets, ancient paving stones, medieval architecture, bright color shutters and richly decorated doors are characteristic features of the old city. The facades of the houses are neat and tidy. In some places, traces of modern civilization are noticeable. All this is the spirit of the Mediterranean.

Siesta

Croatia is far from Spain. But a day break is a must for everyone, especially in the coastal zone! It’s hard to get used to the new schedule in a couple of days. After lunch, all establishments are closed: cafes and restaurants, hairdressers and small shops do not work. The bazaar generally closes at 13 hours and does not open until the end of the day (fish and meat - that’s for sure).

We rent a car and drive along the border with Slovenia. We examine the constellation of small cities. Each of them is located on the mountain. Gorgeous panoramas and breathtaking views.

Bazaar

The bazaar is located on Trg Square ... Near the bazaar there is definitely a paid parking. But you can park your car for free on a nearby street. Locals are not particularly shy and usually do just that. The bazaar is open from 6:30 to 13:00, so you need to arrive there early.

Jalousie

Wooden blinds are ubiquitous in Croatia. There are several modifications. Those that combine shutters and blinds are the cutest. Of course, this characteristic detail can be found not only in Croatia. This is one of the common features of the whole Mediterranean.

You can return to the port along a narrow winding street, steeply escaping from a high hill to the sea. To the right and left are tall and very ancient houses. I could not restrain my curiosity. I go to stare at the courtyards - this is a very colorful sight. Narrow stone courtyards-wells, surrounded by green walls from time to time, decorated with tubs of flowers. The whole street is a continuous souvenir market - paintings, ceramics, magnets, and all other nonsense.

Parking

In the tourist cities of Croatia, parking is very well organized. You can usually expect a convenient location to the main attractions. You can pay for parking almost without problems. Sometimes in the parking lot there is an employee who, waving a pointer, indicates the direction to free spaces. A great solution that saves you time!

Smoking

It is very strange. One gets the feeling that they smoke everywhere! It is impossible to find a restaurant where they do not smoke. People smoke at stops, on the street and on the beach. You can smoke even in the rooms!

IMG_4406.JPG

The old town is surrounded by a promenade. In some places she is active: life is in full swing there, souvenirs are being sold. In its other part it is deserted.

In one place of the embankment there is a gap in which waves beat forming high spray. Tourists come here in search of coolness.

IMG_4585.JPG

There are many people in the city. Tourists stroll even in the midst of the heat. Needless to say about the evening - when the heat subsides, numerous cafes and restaurants open.

Beaches

The water is completely clear due to the lack of sand. Beaches carved into the stone coast. For descent into the water, metal ladders are provided. You can dive into the water from the edge of the promenade. It is important to be careful not to slip and break your head. It will be difficult for parents with children here. In fairness, it should be noted that bulk beaches of gravel for children are also available here.

We rent a boat and get to know the coast. There are a lot of beaches. The beaches here are different: there are large, there are a lot of people. There are very small beaches - for one family. The water is warm and clear. The beaches are partially covered in the shade of trees. The beach cover is pebble.

FKK beaches

Nudist beaches are mostly separate zones. Sometimes you need to pay for entry. Sometimes there are wild beaches that are not governed by any rules. Here you can relax as in clothes as without clothes - this will not bother anyone. Croatia can be safely called the world capital of nudism. Here you can feel the complete freedom of the soul and body.

Usually we got to the wild beach by bicycle. Usually there were a few couples resting. Their bodies were covered with a bronze tan without light patches of skin that usually hide under bathing suits
