This weekend we visited the city of Tver. We quite often go there, but only this time we were able to see the main historical sight of the city. This is the traveling palace of Empress Catherine the Great.
The palace had a difficult fate. In 1941, the German invaders seized part of the city where the monument of architecture was located. Unfortunately, representatives of European civilization value and cherish only their cultural values. They often regard the values of other nations with all possible cruelty.
A striking example of the barbaric attitude to culture is the behavior of German soldiers in USSR. In the battles for the city the Nazis lost a large number of soldiers. Leaving the city, German Wermacht set fire to the palace.
The same fate befell many monuments in the occupied territories. Newcomers from the west had a 'different understanding' of culture. It is terrible to even remember how the Nazis treated the civilian population ...
For a long time the palace was in a terrible state. But finally a large-scale thorough restoration of the palace was carried out. Spent a huge amount of money. An architectural gem was returned to the city.
Guests can see the beautiful interiors of the palace halls. A rich exposition of Old Russian art and icon painting, European painting and modern art are presented.
I was particularly impressed with the dining room. I suggest you guess what material the walls of this room are made of. Who is guessing the material I give 100% up
The museum has an extensive collection of decorative art. Look at some beautiful porcelain plates.
This painting refers to the period of the 20s of Avant-garde style. It's amazing that in a starving country they could create such elegant things.
I end this post with a symbol that has recently become relevant
