I haven't written a travel blog in a while, so it's been a while since I've done so. As I'm writing this, I'm looking at the photos I took on my trip, a little surprised to see that it's already been a year. Time really files so fast! OMG!

トラベルブログをしばらく書いていなかったので、久しぶりに書いてみようと思います。これを書きながら、「もう１年前になるのかぁー」と少しびっくりしながら、旅行で撮った写真を見ています。

Trip to Kiruna!

At the end of the year 2020, I took a night train from Hudiksvall to Kiruna.  The reason was that I wanted to experience the extreme cold of Northern Europe. There were a few other reasons.

1. I want to see how the Sami live. 

2. I want to visit the Ice Hotel. 🥶😁

3. I want to ride a dog sled. 🐕

4. I want to see the Northern Lights if possible. 🔦

In 2020, I decided to go on a trip for the first time in a long time as a change of pace since I was feeling very depressed due to the spread of corona infection.

2020年の年末、わたしはHudiksvallからKirunaへ夜行列車に乗って旅行に行きました。理由は、「極寒の北欧を経験してみたかったから」です。他にいくつか理由があって、

１．サーミの生活を見てみたい。

２．アイスホテルに行ってみたい。

３．犬ぞりに乗ってみたい。

４．できれば、オーロラを見てみたい。

このように、簡単に目標を立てて旅行に行くことにしました。2020年はコロナ感染が拡がって、とても気分的に憂鬱になっている時期でもあって、気分転換をかねて久しぶりに旅行に行きました。

By the way, do you know where Kiruna is?　All I knew about Kiruna was that it was a town in Scandinavia where you can see the northern lights, but I was surprised when I looked up its actual location on Google Maps! It's located almost in the Arctic Circle, and just looking at its location made me excited.

ところで、Kirunaってどこにあるか、ご存じですか？　わたしもKirunaはオーロラが見える北欧の町ということしかあまり知らず、GoogleMapsで実際の位置を調べてみてびっくり！北極圏にほぼ入る位置にあって、その位置を見るだけて、わくわくしていました。

In Sweden, digitalization is very advanced, and you can easily book train tickets with your smartphone 🤳.　I recommend downloading the Swedish Railways app called SJ.　I chose to take the midnight train because I was worried about Covid19 infections when traveling by plane, and I had never taken a midnight train before, so I wanted to try it at least once.

スウェーデンではデジタル化がとても進んでいて、列車のチケットも簡単にスマホで予約が取れます。　SJという、スウェーデン鉄道のアプリをダウンロードするのをお勧めします。　わたしがあえて深夜列車を選んだ理由は、飛行機での移動ではコロナ感染が心配だったことと、深夜列車に乗ったことが今までなかったので、一度は乗車してみたいと思い経験してみました。

They provide WiFi on the train, so it was pretty convenient! 😉👍

We stopped by Hudiksvall just for a couple of hours

We spent only a few hours in Hudiksvall, but it was a very nice town with a great atmosphere. There are old fishermen's houses along the coast. The town reminded me a little of Copenhagen, and I wondered if all the fishermen's towns in Scandinavia used to be like this.

Hudiksvallでの滞在は数時間だったのですが、海岸沿いを歩くと昔の漁師さんの町があったり、とても良い雰囲気のある町でした。少しコペンハーゲンを彷彿をさせる町なみで、きっと北欧の漁師の町は昔みんなこんな感じの町だったのかなぁと思いながら町を散策していました。

It is time to get on the night train! 🚞🚞

When the train arrived at the station, I felt very excited. Experiencing something for the first time in your life is always exciting, isn't it? Because of the corona, there were not many passengers, so we were able to use the train very comfortably. In addition, as is still the case, to prevent corona infections, passengers are required to keep their distance from each other on the train, so we were very lucky to be able to use a carriage for two people instead of six.

駅に電車が到着したときは、とてもわくわくした気分になりました。人生で初めての経験って、いつもわくわくしますよね。コロナの影響で乗車客も少なく、とてもゆったりと利用が出来ました。それに、今もそうですがコロナ感染を防ぐために列車の中は間隔をあけて乗車するように決められていて、わたしたちは６人用の車両を２人で使うことができて、とてもラッキーでした。

The inside of the vehicle was very comfortable and water was provided. I'm the type of person who can sleep relatively well anywhere and in any environment, but if you're sensitive about noise and a type who cannot sleep on plane due to noise, you might want to bring earplugs. Also, it was very dry in the train car, so it would be better to bring enough water with you. However, there are also stores and simple restaurants on the train.

車両の中はとても快適で、水がついていました。わたしはどこでも、どのような環境でも比較的寝れるタイプの人間なのですが、音などが気になる方は耳栓を持って行ったほうがいいと思います。そして、車両内はとても乾燥していたので、十分な水分を持っていくとよりいいと思います。ただ、電車の中にも売店や簡易レストランなどはあります。

We took the midnight train, which runs through the night and arrives at Kiruna in the early morning. It was dark and I couldn't see the scenery outside, so I thought it would be a good idea to go to bed and save my energy for tomorrow. 🙂🍚🍙 Eat well and sleep well for tomorrow! 🙂🍙🍚

It's a little hard to tell from the picture, but this vehicle has six beds, it looks like four, but it's six! Since we were in Corona, we were able to have this carriage all to ourselves, but if we have a chance to come back next time, we would like to reserve a private room. 😉

私たちが乗車した深夜列車は、夜の間走り続け、早朝にKirunaにつく列車でした。Kirunaに着いてからの予定を確認してから、すぐに寝ることにしました。時間帯が暗くて、外の景色も見れませんでしたし、こういった時はさっさと寝て、明日の為にエネルギーを蓄えるのいいなと思いました。

写真では少しわかりずらいのですが、この車両は６つベットがついています。４つのように見えるのですが、６つです！わたしたちはコロナの為、この車両を独占できたのですが、もし次来る機会がある場合は個室を予約しようと思いました。

We were able to use a six-person car with two people, so it was easy for us to set up the bed. It looked like a lot of work. We were really lucky.

If you want to travel on a train with a little more space, I recommend booking a 1st class carriage. Also, it was a bit cold in the train car, so you might want to bring some extra clothes. The temperature outside was about -20 degrees Celsius 🥶🥶🥶, so it was pretty cold!

わたしたちは２人で６人用の車両を使用できたので、簡単にベットの準備ができたのですが、他の車両ではこの小さなスペースで４人から５人が順番にベットを準備していたようで、かなり大変そうでした。本当にラッキーでした。

すこしスペースがある列車で旅行したい人は１ｓｔクラスの車両を予約するのをお勧めします。それと、車両内は少し寒かったので、少し服を多めに持っていくといいと思います。外の気温は－２０度ぐらいだったので、寒いはずですよね！

In my next blog, I will write about sightseeing and other things I did after arriving in Kiruna. I was excited from the very first day to see the sights in Scandinavia, Sweden, and it was a great experience.

次のブログではKirunaに着いてからの観光などについて書こうと思います。北欧のスウェーデンでの観光、初日からわくわくした、最高の思い出が出来ました。
