🥦Mizuo's Travel Blog🥦No.32 - Kyoto, Japan 🇯🇵 - Dec. 2022

👉👉👉Please read my previous blog about my visit in Kyoto!

The pealing of the bells of the Jetavana templering with the sound of the impermanence of all materialthings.

The color of the paired Sala trees giveswitness to the truth that all who flourish must necessarilyperish.

Those who flaunt their pleasures are not longfor the world;

they are as brief as the dream of aSpring night.

And the brave ones are vanquished in the end they are merely as specks of dust before the wind.

I remember having to memorize the opening sentence of "The Tale of the Heike" in junior high school. The opening sentence of the tale expresses the change of time and era, and while we may feel happy or sad for a long time when we are in the present, when we look at it from a bird's eye view, we are reminded that it is a moment-by-moment event.

Kyoto! I love Kyoto so much!
Kyoto! I love Kyoto so much!

At the end of last year, I thought very much about returning home because airline tickets were very expensive, but I decided to take the plunge. After returning to Japan, I went sightseeing in Kyoto with my mom. Now that I think about it, almost half a year has already passed. I am again surprised at how quickly time passes.

I am very happy to have been able to return to Japan and spend so much time with my mom, and now that I think about it, I am really glad I did. I have very good memories.

KYOTO! JAPAN!!

The main purpose of my visit to Kyoto was to go to an unagi restaurant that I always visit with my mom every time I return to Japan, but my mom also said, "It's nice to go sightseeing in Kyoto after a long time. So, we decided to visit Yasaka Shrine and Kiyomizu Temple.

I took a walk with my mom in Kyoto.

I feel a little guilty that I am working overseas in Japan left my aging mom living alone....That is why we want to create as many good memories as possible when I return home.

Kyoto is still an area where Japan as it was about 200 years ago remains intact, and traditional Japanese houses, which are hard to find today, can still be seen in the town as shown here. You will feel as if you have stepped into a time machine and traveled 200 years back in time to the Japan of 200 years ago.

Hokan-Ji Temple Yasaka Tower

There are many traditional buildings in Kyoto, but my favorite is the Yasaka-no-to (Pagoda of Yasaka), located behind Yasaka Shrine.

There is a slope from Yasaka Shrine to Kiyomizu Temple, and this "Yasaka-no-to" stands on the slope. Since there are no tall buildings in the area, Yasaka-no-to is loved by tourists and locals alike as a landmark of the area.

I walked slowly up the slope, talking with my mother, "It's a little tough because of the slope. In Kyoto, people wearing kimono (Japanese traditional clothes) are often seen in town. In Osaka and Tokyo, it is not so common to see people wearing kimonos anymore, but in Kyoto, the culture of wearing kimonos still remains, and I love the sense that values such a culture.

When my mother and I visited Kyoto, it was a time when the number of foreign tourists was increasing little by little, and the town was a little more crowded with many foreign visitors wearing kimonos.

Many people were visiting there! Wow!

This is pretty cute!

What a beautiful Japanese house! I want to live in such a house! Cool!!

Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka

My mom's favorite place in Kyoto is Sannenzaka.

The next stop was Sanneizaka. This slope leads to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and is in an area that is particularly crowded with tourists. A small slope leads up to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, with stores on both sides selling snacks and tourist goods. One of the stores is a favorite place of mine and my mom's where we always buy gifts for our friends.

Unfortunately my sambo was not able to join us on this return trip. My sambo wanted to spend the Christmas vacation with his elderly grandparents, so my sambo decided not to go this time. Looking back, I think it was a very, very good decision.

Therefore, Okan bought hina dolls for my Sambo's grandparents. I gave it to them as a gift after I came back to Sweden, and I was very happy to see that they liked it so much and displayed it in their house.

I am writing this blog on May 13, and almost half a year has already passed. It is now 21 degrees Celsius in Stockholm, and today is the first time this year that I do not feel cold even with all the windows open. Time has passed so quickly. It would be nice to continue living in Sweden, but I feel again that it is the flow of life to think about returning home someday and taking care of Okan. Until then, please be well. I am grateful to my mom for allowing me to do as I please. And I am also thankful to my mom for being so genki.

My mom always says "I'd love to go on the Rhine River cruise that your father always wanted to go on someday!" I would like to fulfill my mom's dream, and then I will consider moving back to Osaka. Until then, please give me some time.
