Gamla Stan (Old Town), Stockholm, Sweden

I went sightseeing in the old town of Poland, and there I still thought it was similar to the old town in Stockholm. So, I decided to go sightseeing again to Gamla Stan in Stockholm's Old Town.

It is true that the old town of Stockholm is smaller than the old town of Warsaw, but instead, many small lanes and alleys remain, and I felt that the atmosphere of the medieval town is still very much alive. Many buildings built during the Hanseatic League period still remain, and this gorgeous blue mansion is said to be the residence of a German merchant who made his fortune during the Hanseatic League.

The day was getting a little warmer, and it finally felt like spring in Stockholm. The flowers in the flowerbeds are starting to bloom, and it finally feels like spring.

After walking around Gamla Stan (Old Town) in publication for the first time in a while, I was getting a little tired and decided to take a short break and have a beer. I decided to go to a bar in the basement, which I have always wondered about every time I come to the old town.

This bar is about a 30-second walk from the main square in the center of Gamla Stan. The first floor of the building seems to be a café and restaurant, and the bar seems to be operating in the basement. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing, a great place to take a short break.

Mexican foooood! Love it!
Mexican foooood! Love it!

There are many restaurants and bars in Gamla Stan, so there is no shortage of places to eat and drink. That day we went to a Mexican restaurant that I had been to before and liked very much.

There was a wide variety of beers, and I was a little confused as to which brand to drink. I was a little bit confused because I was curious about the name of the beer, but it seemed to be a Norwegian beer LOL! and I thought it might be a Mexican beer. However, the atmosphere of the restaurant is lively, and if you are getting a little tired of European food, I recommend this restaurant for a slightly different dining experience.

Taking a promenade to Odenplan

The Mexican food was more plentiful than we expected and we decided to take a little post-meal walk. We decided to walk from Gamla Stan, the old town to the downtown area called Odenplan. It takes about 30 minutes to walk there, and it is only two stops away by train, but we wanted to take a little walk after dinner, so we decided to go for a walk. It seemed to have rained a little, and the humid air seemed to have cleaned up the city and made it very pleasant.

Walking from Gamla Stan toward Odenplan, you will find yourself on a walking path through Stockholm's city center, where small islets are connected by bridges. Whenever I walk around this area, I am reminded that Stockholm is a city made up of archipelagos. Gamla Stan, the old town, is actually an island in itself, but you can see the Parliament building and the Prime Minister's residence before you get from the old town to the downtown area.

The view of the area is beautiful, with Stadshus, the site of the Nobel Prize dinner, and other sites in the distance.

Adolf Fredriks Church and Bierhaus

The reason I headed to Odenplan was to go to my favorite German 🍺 beer bar there, Bierhaus, which is my favorite bar because it serves authentic Bavarian beer. On the way to the bar, we stopped by the Adolf Frederiks church. It was beautiful after a light rain, so I stopped by to take a break and look at the flower garden with beautiful flowers.

I have been living in Stockholm for a few years now, and once again, doing sightseeing is becoming less and less common these days. I felt that Stockholm was becoming less and less a place for sightseeing and more and more "my city" for me. I still cannot speak Swedish well, and it will take a few more years before I can say that Stockholm is "my city" in earnest, but I could feel my own state of mind changing over time. We will see! 😉
