A picture of King's Rock Graves from the Yeşilırmak

During the Ottoman period, the shahzadahs were sent to Amasya for state administration and they were provided with training here. Most of the sultans were raised in this rare city. So, in a sense, the first internship of the state administration was teached in these lands, so it is called the city of the shahzadahs. Meanwhile shahzadah means the Ottoman prince.

Amasya's first known name was Amaseia, the name was given by Strabon, the world's first geographer.

In the Hellenistic period, King's rock graves belonging to the Pontic Kingdoms, which used Amasya from 333 to 26 BC as the capital, were carved into limestone rocks on the southern skirts of Mount Harşena.

There are roads and stairways which is carved into the rocks between the narrow streets of Hatuniye District and the path which leads from the railways to the tombs. Along the Yeşilırmak Valley, it is known that there are 21 small tombs, only a few of them have arrived at the present day. The passages carved into their backs are more striking than the rock tombs. There is a beginning of a tunnel next to one of the great graves in this area, believed to extend as far as the river. These tombs, carved by limestone rocks, are a dominant place in terms of their structure and size.

The largest of the King's Tombs is the last tomb in the west. The height of this cave is 15m, width 8m and depth 6m. Entrance to the burial chamber is higher than the doors in the other graves. The cave, also called "Great King's Tomb", has suffered many destructions.

Streetphotography in Amasya

Turkiye and its cities are really great source of street photography and pictures and Amasya was amazing for me. I have been in Amasya two times.Firstly i accompanied my brother to go to Amasya with him because of his military duty. It was mid-winter of 2009 and secondly we joined a tour with my wife and it was summer of 2016. Actually in winter time Amasya looks better in my opinion but i want to say that i like the winter, cold and rain. Anyway i took these pictures on these trips :
