Eğirdir

Eğirdir is a province with a wealth of history and nature located within the borders of the Isparta. Eğirdir, which can be painted in different colors at any time of the day, offers a visual feast as well as the possibility of taking in history.

In Eğirdir, there is a climate between Mediterranean and Central Anatolia climates. You will immediately notice that it has a refreshing effect when you take the air into your lungs. Due to this feature, it is also the indispensable place of the rare Apollo butterflies. In addition to these butterflies, what should be considered as Egirdir are Eğirdir Lake, Turkish Armed Forces Mountain Commando School, Can Ada ( a small peninsula ), Bone Diseases Hospital, Kasnak Oak and Sığla forests that are rare in the world, blue flag beach Altınkum , Akpınar Gözlemesi(some kind a pancake) , roses and of course apples.

History

It is believed that Egirdir was first founded by the Lydian ruler Kroisos. Therefore, the first name is 'Kroisos'. It was later called the 'Prostanna' during the Romans. During the period when the Seljuks were ruled, 'Cennetabad' name was given due to its natural beauty. Timur (Founder of Empire of Timur Khan // 1369 - 1501 A.D) and Karamanoğulları ( which was founded by Karamanoğlu Mehmet) also entered the administration of Eğirdir in 1423 fully participated in the Ottoman lands. After Tanzimat Edict, Egirdir has become a discrict and after the Republican, it protected the its position as a discrict.

Tanzimat Edict : Tanzimat, (Turkish: “Reorganization”), series of reforms promulgated in the Ottoman Empire between 1839 and 1876 under the reigns of the sultans Abdülmecid I and Abdülaziz. These reforms, heavily influenced by European ideas, were intended to effectuate a fundamental change of the empire from the old system based on theocratic principles to that of a modern state.

When it comes to where you get the 'Egirdir' name, we can convey a story told among the people. While the people of the region tried to escape from the flood disaster in the region, an aunt waved up. Though passersby had warned the aunt, she kept spining her cotton and did not escape. As they pass by the last, they are angry at the unauthorized response of the aunt and say her " sen eğir dur ,eğir dur,eğir dur..." by time this sentences had changed and it was "Eğirdir" so nowadays we call here as Eğirdir.

i want to give you a short Turkish lesson. In Turkish writing and speaking is as like as mathematic. for example there is a word eğirmek ( to spin) and durmak (to stop) so when they say her "eğir dur" thay want to say keep on spining you will get drawned soon.

I think this small lesson is enough for now because it is really hard to learn Turkish.

A last example : to go : gitmek (in Turkish)

                          git+tim : i went
                          gid+iyorum : i am going
                          gid+eceğim : i will go
                          gid+erim : i go

So now you will understand what i am talking about when i have said "it is a language which is hard to learn.

Last words about Eğirdir Lake

Transportation to Eğirdir by road is not a problem as it is located on Isparta-Konya highway. Also nearby there is Süleyman Demirel Airport. If you are coming to Eğirdir by İsparta, you will first encounter the magnificent view of Egirdir from the hill. You can observe the hilltops, the beach, the Mountain Commando School and the bird's eye view of the city. On your left you can swim in the clear Egirdir Lake, which can be reached to Altinkum beach or you can stay in bungalows. If you continue further, it is possible to see the Bedre Bay. When you get to the center of the city, you are greeted by small tea gardens where you can relax primarily by the lake. Watching the ducks near the lake will make you feel rested while sipping your tea here. If you bring some breed with you , feeding the ducks will give you incredible peace of mind. You can see the mosque, the mausoleum and the medreses which are historical buildings in the center of the city, you can not prevent yourself from taking photographs while visiting the streets of history, the old buildings.

You will be able to see Eğirdir Castle and its cute harbor, as the islander is already on the island and then joined to the peninsula via Yalikada (Nis) and Can island. Because there is a half island road connection, you can switch easily. As you walk along the cord, you will meet the island first. This island is also known as the island which was presented as a gift to Atatürk during a visit. There are areas where you can make your picnic by the lake and leave yourself in the cool waters of the lake. On the opposite side of the island there are tea gardens where you can enjoy the unique view of Eğirdir. After the island you can meet in Greenwich. There are small boarding houses, fish restaurants, Ayastefanos church, narrow streets, wooden houses and small fisherman shelters, also known as Nis among the public. You can stay here and have experiences about delicious fish restaurants. You can taste fresh water, carp and lobster.

In short, this beautiful province, which houses different alternatives,

-Without swiming in the lake
-Without eating fish on the island
-Without going out to Akpınar and eating Gözleme while watching Egirdir from the top
-Without seeing the National Park of the Kovoda
-Do not come back without trekking and surfing.

you can buy rose products and apples for the people who you love !
