Tago Restaurant (Filipino-Style)

Tago Restaurant (Filipino-Style)

June 2023 · 5 min read · Southern Leyte

Rarely, you can find restaurants in our place. Maybe because the population of the small village doesn't give an assurance that many customers will come. Also, even if the management itself or the people visiting this place with a higher status in life say it's affordable; Not for the locals who live there think that way. Considering the everyday rate of salary in the province. Spending more than your daily salary is not a wise thing to do. Even so, some are wiser that they saved money to experience delicious food and fancy places. It's not always and it's like a reward for themselves once in a while after the overworking days.

In our town, Macrohon, Southern Leyte, Philippines there was a restaurant named "Tago" (Hide) 2 small villages away from the town. From the name itself, you will have a hard time finding this place except when you'll ask the locals. I don't know why the owner named it like that but in my own opinion, there is an obvious reason.

Located not in the center of the town and not along the road. Perhaps, that's the owner's reasons but we know that when it stays longer or operates longer people will notice it. It's like the news that will be relayed to people, to the neighboring town, and until it spreads. The early operation is just the hardest because no one knows it yet but in time it will be easier. However, that's not the case for now after the Philippines devastated the houses in our region.

Before we start talking about this place. An honorable mention to our sweet, gorgeous, and generous host @dswigle (Denise) of this #marketfriday tag. Then I'll be showing the beauty of this restaurant. First off, when you enter the restaurant, a washing for hands portion welcomes you from the time you step inside. It's a unique type of sink, it's not always what you'll see in your houses that are mostly built like ceramic sinks. In here, a faucet with tires design. I think it's cool if you'll ask me.

Since it's located near the beach, before you get inside you can step on the white sand. It's up to you if you want to go inside the restaurant when I think it's nice to eat outside seeing the beautiful view of the sea. You can stay and eat outside because there are tables outside as well.

Well, have you tried being inside a historical Filipino house? Just like the houses from the old ages where it still exists as of these days but most found in the mountains or hills. If you visit this place you will experience a comfortable feeling and chill feeling that the Filipino house gives. Obviously, because of this it was built of bamboo trees and a nipa hut.

You notice the cashier location, right? You do not expect that it was made from a bamboo tree. Although it was crafted to look like this and it was called "amakan." They cut the bamboo into half and then remove its skin and this is the result.

The floor was made from a bamboo tree too. Though it was too simple to look like this. By the time you set foot in a bamboo tree, the floor feels different. It's hard to describe,  it was not soft like a futon and it was not hard like it was made from cement. Maybe, it's good to experience it yourself.

Of course,  the food they serve is mostly Filipino style. The dish called sinigang with the soup tastes sour but delicious. The lumpia is delicious as well with its crunchiness even just eating the outside, adding more what's inside that is filled with meat and vegetables.

Overall,  my experience in this restaurant is amazing.  Together with the food and the establishment.  It's not just for eating delicious food but also a beautiful place to hang out at the same time.
