A Day In The Dorchester Brewhouse U.K

After a busy day wandering around Dorchester I felt I would have been missing out on life if I didn’t visit their old brewery site. Today most of the area has turned into chain restaurants and upmarket shops for the posh sorts and expats who live in the area, but there’s still a functioning and rather remarkable brewery still going on the site.

This place makes a day out in Dorchester worth it as a single destination. I’ve visited a lot of breweries in my time all over the UK, but I haven’t encountered any that have the walk in and relax approach so down pat as these guys. The moment you walk in your struck with how laid back everything is. Yet it’s still a functional running brewery with a hell of a pub smacked on the side.

The one aspect of the Brewhouse that struck me as great was that there were no cosmetic taps. It’s like a little Willy Wonka factory for beer. I took on several samplers (five separate beers in 1/3 a pint sized glasses) before settling on their Maiden Castle brew.... which came in Steins.

Outside of the spectacular range of in house brewed beer, they also invite you to meet their master brewer and walk about the set up they have in house. Being partial to making my own home brew from time to time I couldn’t resist.

I did manage to get a video with the brewer but it ran a bit long so I’ve had difficulty uploading it. The guy really was enthusiastic about his beer. Apparently the company flew him in from Dublin to train him up when he was only twenty years old and he’s just fallen in love with the science of brewing. I took a lot away from the dialogue and hope to apply a couple tricks the lad shared with me on my next attempt at home brew.

It was a much needed end to the day. Amazing food, amazing beers, and a chance to stand in an amazing brewery while sipping a pint and picking the brain of a professional brewer. The Brewhouse does have a few other locations around the UK, but unlike a lot of places that are growing ..... they keep with amazing practices and they haven’t lost a single bit of the sincerity when it comes to perfecting a good pint.

By the end of the trip I found myself incredibly soused but not to the point of being slovenly... I certainly didn’t drive after though. If you are a beer enthusiast (who’s not right?) you have got to stop into this location in Dorchester. It doesn’t look like much from the outside as it’s on the corner of the old brewery site, but once you walk in you’re immediately floored with the set up. Given an afternoon and a lack of caution and you easily could be floored by the multiple brews they offer.... not to mention the amount of samples the barmaids will pour down your neck before you even decide what to order.
