Koh Lipe, Thailand - My Travel Diary

Koh Lipe, Thailand - My Travel Diary

December 2019 · 5 min read · Satun Province

I woke up in the morning, looked through the window and seeing the frost on the ground I was longing for the white sands and emerald water of Koh Lipe, the small paradise island, where I spent four amazing days.

The trip to the island
We, George, Nat and I, were up early to catch the flight from Bangkok to Nat Yai, near the Malaysian border. George is my son and Nat - his girlfriend. They both live in Bangkok and I visited them for couple of weeks. They have arranged my holiday to be memorable and made all the arrangements and booking. I am most thankful to both of them, because they made my dream to come true.

The trip to the island was supposed to be long and after an hour and half by plane, we had little time for cup of coffee until the van picked up us and we continued for another couple of hours heading to the sea, from where the speed boat will bring us to the island.

Akira Lipe Resort was our final destination. But before reaching it, let me show you what I saw on our way.

On our way to the pier. We went out to wait for our boat.

It was hot. The clouds appeared for little while, but it was still hot. I hoped we will cool down when we are in the speed boat.

Finally the boat arrived and dropped the passenges who were returning. Now it was our turn and we were lucky to be just few. I could not resist to make selfie.

Another hour and a half with the speed boat and we reached Koh Lipe.

The crystal clear water, the blue sky and the white beach, that was exactly what I was expecting to see. The trees in the distance and the boats completed the picture.

Getting closer to the shore.

Welcome to Koh Lipe.

We had time for some refreshing drink while waiting for our luggage.

The transport to the hotel.

At the reception desk of Akira resort we were welcomed with cold juice and warm wet towel to wash our hands and face from the journey.

First impression from Akira resort.

So much green and beautiful garden. That was one of the first impressions.

Oh, yes, the banana and coconut tree.

Before entering the room, one must shower the feet from the sand.

And here is my room.

The signs for not disturbing or wishing the room to be cleaned were next to the door. All you need is to slide.

The room was spacious with all amenities .

Fresh fruit on the table.

The best feauture is when one goes outside.

It could not be better than that. Now the dilemma was where to go first - the pool or the beach. The beach it was. I should not miss that sunny afternoon not to try swimming in the sea. So, I changed quickly and George and Nat followed me off to the beach.

Behind the deck chairs, there was another pool, but I never used it.

More interesting was in front.

Ahh, I was in paradise. The soft music from the bar, the sunny day, the warm water of the sea, the view, what else one could wish for? I felt so spoiled.

After spending the first day on the beach, back in the hotel room, there was another sweet surprise from the staff.

But it was early to go to bed and we were hungry. The walking street being not far way from our hotel was the first choice to go for dinner. George and Nat has been on Koh Lipe before and they chose again the same place to celebrate their anniversary and my extended birthday. So, I knew they will show me the best places on the island.

To reach the walking street we had to walk on the beach and then to choose among the many places where to sit and have dinner.

The atmosphere of that street was unique with the shops, cafes, restaurants, massage salons.

We chose a place to sit and we had delicious food served. I tried for the first time crab curry and it was yummy.

With our tummies full and being tired after such a long day, we returned back in the hotel.
On the beah the fire shows had began. We stopped to watch and me to try to make some decent photos. It wasn't so easy. However the flames appeared with interesting shapes even if not quite on focus.

Each night we saw these guys playing with the fire on several spots on the beach.

The day was over and was full with excitement. Next day - snorkeling! Another adventerure I was looking forward to it. So, it was about time to have some good sleep and to try the sweets for good night. 😀
