South East Queensland has a newish parkrun so it was another early 3:30 am rise and on the road by 4 am to pick up a friend to make the just over 2 hours drive north west of Brisbane. Luckily the roads are pretty quiet this time of day and we made really good time.Blackbutt is named after the trees that used to be logged in the area. The tree has rough bark and are quiet often black at the bottom from bush fires. Hence the name.An original logging wagon.Blackbutt is also home to the Roy Emerson Museum a famous international tennis player who grew up in the area.Mr Emerson who won 28 Grand Slam titles back in the 1960sThe Old Nukku Siding not big enough to be called a railway station but moved here to be looked after rather than left to rot.The parkrun event is held on part of the The Brisbane Valley Rail Trail. Which is a 161-kilometre long from Wulkuraka to Yarraman. The trail follows the old Brisbane Valley disused railway line and is very popular with cyclists. One day we would like to cycle the whole lot but today it is only a short 2.5 kilometre section on an out and back course north of the township. The parkrun briefing at the show grounds. The start and finish line.I really like the small country parkruns and a chance to visit some where new. This trip and run was a few weeks back now before I strained my ankle. Photos of me by parkrun volunteer photographer. After the run it was a short walk into town for breakfast and a coffee at The Bunya Nut café. I just loved the laser cut wood saw blade. We went half each of the Spinach, Feta Frittata and the Sweet potato Frittata.Wood axe hand rails.Next it was a short walk and a explore of the town. I picked up a second hand book from the opportunity charity shop. I really enjoy the historical fiction stuff that Edward Rutherford writes.I will leave you with some nice Aboriginal art featured on some of the public buildings.
