Hidden away an hours drive north west of Sydney’s Central business district is the luscious Lisgar Gardens. Originally a private garden owned and developed on the steep hill side now purchased and maintained by the Hornsby Shire Council.

We had no idea about this place and it just did not show up on our radar until I was looking for a place to run on google maps, I spotted a large green area and a couple of dotted trails. It did not take long before I was planning a morning loop run and an afternoon walk than included seeing everything the gardens had to offer.

Lots of stone work and retaining wall would have taken while to get into place.

It only took an hour to explore every path in these gardens but there was hundreds of steps down and back up the hills side, the garden joint onto the Florence Cotton Reverse that is well worth a visit too.

A couple of nice but man made water falls though I would expect there a few natural ones as well when they get a lot of rain.

It has been dry and very windy for the past couple of days but the bottom of the valley was still lush and green.
