The subway system in New York is amazing, it can get you everywhere quickly and easily.

The Marathon is put on by the New York Road Runners. It’s been running since 1970 and is the largest marathon in the world with over 50,000 runners entering each year.

It was an early start to get down to the start area. The Kangaroo onesies were to stay warm.

The marathon passes all 5 Boroughs of New York City. It starts on Staten Island, then travels through Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, The Bronx and then back into Manhattan to finish in Central Park.

The crowds of people that come out to watch are fantastic and all the bands music and entertainment makes it such a spectacle.

This was not the time I was hoping for, but was definitely an amazing experience. I have run 10 Marathons all up and it’s easy to get complacent. I’d also had a few injuries and I was coming off the back of a fair bit of triathlon training, so I was hurting lots in the last 10km. I had to walk a bit to get it done. There was a lot of zig-zagging in the large field along the way and my Garmin measured 43km, instead of the standard 42.2km of a marathon, so I definitely got extra mileage!

With the Marathon done it was time for some sight seeing before the long flight home.

I would have like to run over the Brooklyn Bridge as well but I was still very achy from the marathon and we still had plenty of tourist walking to do.

This was my first time ever time at the NBA and I loved all the action and game play. Luckily my friend recommended it, and said it would be worth forking out a little more for some seats closer to all the action. It was worth every cent.

This is a piece out of the trunk of a Giant Sequoia Tree. It shows 1400 years worth of growth. The tree was over 90 metres tall before it was felled. After this beauty was cut down, the next president passed a law to say these trees had to be protected.

And that's it! That was my whirlwind trip around New York City. I loved it so much, though went home very achy and sore, and I can't wait to get back there and do a heap more exploring.
