The Nurso

May 2023 · 2 min read · Queensland
I have driven past this place many times over the years and I remember visiting this location when it was called the ”Hawkins garden centre” a long time ago when everything was going big. The bigger the better everything imaginable in on place. Hawkins was everything you could want for out doors and the garden . Like lots of bigger is better business out here in Australia it eventually went broke, belly up and closed it’s doors for what seemed like the longest time. It is always strange to me that a prime piece of real estate can sit empty and or not functional for a time time.

Eventually a learner motor bike riding school started operating in the car park.  Then I started noticing some graffiti. I did not pay much attention just thinking it was some youth just expressing there talent. Next a big a big sign caught my eye and Nurso opened.

We decided to drop in and were delightfully surprised with what they have done with the place. Still an out door and plant place but much different to the old Hawkins set up.

The Murals were everywhere.

There is nothing like some good art work to brighten an old place up.

So many great murals, it was so hard to chose at favorite.

They even had a few farm animals.

Xanthorrhoea - grass trees. I would love a few of these for our back yard but even the small ones were very expensive. $70 Australia dollars.

The great weather made for some nice photos, all the color in the pots, plants, murals and decorations made for a great afternoon of exploring.
