Wollomombi falls is located within the Oxley Rivers National Park along the popular 185km Waterfall Way scenic drive. There are a number of Waterfalls and Gorges along this route as the New England Region is situated over 1000m above sea level and lots of rain fall collects in the high land then work its was east ward towards the sea. It was only a short half an hour drive from Armidale where we were staying.

This great platform had the best views of the Gorge and small waterfalls due to lack of recent rain but we were keen to explore some well marked walking trail along the ridge.

There was not a lot of people around even with it being our summer school break, I think most people like to head for the coast and the beaches when it gets hot in Australia. I do not blame them but it makes everything expensive in those areas, we try to visit inland and stay away from the crowds.

You can just make out the Wollomombi falls in the centre of photo above and  the Chandler Falls in the photo below. The Wollomombi George is the meeting point of The Wollomombi River and the Chandler River.

Wollomombi is the Aboriginal word meaning "The of meeting to waters".

There are 2 walking track to enjoy in this World Heritage area. The Wollomombi track to the north is pretty easy and has a few other good lookouts.

This Dingo Fence protects sheep from Australian wild Dogs. This one runs intermittently over 650 kilometres but is not part of the more famous fence that runs all the way from Queensland to South Australia.

The Chandler out and back walk is to the south and was a bit more technically and had a fair bit of elevation gain to content with on a switch back trail.

Officially the end of the track. There appears to be an old way down to the river past this point but the track is unmaintained and closed.
