Hiking Around Uluru For A Birthday Treat (Actifit)

Birthday Sunrise at Uluru

Illness has slowly been trying to plague an otherwise incredible experience of being out in the arid land of the Outback. However, I wasn't going to let that stop me from waking up at the crack of dawn in my swag in freezing temperatures to witness an amazing event of the Uluru Sunrise. This was from a different angle compared to yesterday and personally think we saw a lot more lit up.

Mala Walk At Uluru

I decided to get up early this morning for my birthday and watch the sun rise as I won't get another chance to do this! It was as amazing as yesterday with a different perspective and part of the rock being lit up.

We went for a walk at the base of Uluru this morning called the Mala Trail and learnt about some of the areas of significance on this rock where ceremonies took place and spirits are said to still live with the white features from the cave walls sticking out.

As I got back in to the bus, everyone serenaded me with happy birthday and played one of my songs from Spotify (Heavy Weight) which was pretty surreal 🙂

Best Driving Game Ever

That's right, DRIVING game lol. As we departed with most of the group at Uluru (9 of the 13 went to Sydney to continue the tour), the rest of us had to get to Alice Springs, which was still a long 4 hour drive. So we had to be inventive to help pass the time and created a game called "Olympic Waves" or "The Great Outback Wave Off".

This basically involved the tour guide, me and the remaining folks to take it in turns to wave at drivers that were driving on the other side of the road and get them to wave back. If they wave back, you get a point, 5 goes each and if there's a tie, it goes to sudden death. As this is a very VERY sparsely populated area, vehicles are few and far between so the stakes were high!

I managed to pull off a miraculous victory as the sun was setting on the way to Alice Springs, despite difficult dusk conditions and got 4/5. Surprisingly, a very entertaining game and when the sky changes to something that looks like a Mars Skyline, you can't help but sit back and say "wow" (once the adrenaline settled down 😁)

BTW, since my fitbit strap broke I thought I'd try Actifit's in built step counter but it seems to have gone massively awol! I definitely didn't do that many steps, more like 10,000 so not sure what happened there? Think it may have picked up vibrations from the bus?

Anyway, take it easy, catch you soon 😀
