The Rocca di Serravalle is one of the most evocative and graceful places I know, the town of Serravalle itself, a small village near Pistoia, is a truly enchanting place where they host many interesting events, especially a very beautiful medieval fair, inspired by the fortress itself. Getting to the fortress is quite simple, you have to cross the town and then there is a large green clearing where concerts and festivals are held in the summer and from there you can reach the fortress which is surrounded by this meadow, near the fortress there is also a tower which, however, is unfortunately half destroyed. The fortress has medieval origins and today it is a little destroyed by the elements but still very beautiful to look at. The best preserved part of the fortress is certainly the tower while the walls around it are quite worn out. The fortress is also called Castruccio's fortress because it was built like many buildings, bridges and towers of the time by Castruccio Castracani, a nobleman with a passion for architecture. This tower was also involved in the clashes between Lucca, Florence and Pistoia, it was besieged by the first two cities. Very sought after for its position on a small promontory and for the surrounding fields full of vines and excellent for agriculture. The fortress is called new as opposed to the old fortress of which the bell tower and little else remain.

In ancient times the new fortress was connected to the old one via a long wall that surrounded the town which is now almost completely destroyed. In my opinion the fortress is particularly beautiful in the evening because it is illuminated by colored lights which underline the architecture making them visible even from far away, at night this castle has a particularly magical air. During my tour of Serravalle, in addition to the fortress which I really liked, I also found a very pretty little church which I photographed, it's called the church of Santo Stefano, also of medieval origin, from around the fourteenth century, with a really pretty little turret/bell tower . In short, Serravalle is a small village that is worth visiting and the same goes for the fortress, which is beautiful at night and during the day.
