Falling In Love With Khao Kho, Thailand

June 2020 · 3 min read · Phetchabun Province

Have you ever heard of Khao Kho?

Khao Kho is a district of Phetchabun Province, Thailand. It is a famous place, especially in the winter, because it is surrounded by green mountains in a peaceful and pure atmosphere. Therefore, this place is called the Switzerland of Thailand. The tourists come here to relax and take in the magnificence of nature. There are interesting sightseeing spots such as the cabbage fields in Phu Tub Berk, Pratamnak Khao Kho, and the sea of mist at Khao Kho. There are a lot of beautiful resorts around here. If you like adventure, you can stay in a tent at some resorts. You will see the breathtaking sea of clouds in the morning. My family and I had the opportunity to visit. We started in Bangkok and ended in Chiang Rai, which was our final destination.

Phra Thart Pha Sorn Kaew Temple

Wat Phra Thart Pha Sorn Kaew
Wat Phra Thart Pha Sorn Kaew

Phra Thart Pha Sorn Kaew Temple was our first stop. It is located on the hill of Tang Dang Village in Khao Kho. Why do they call this temple "Pha Sorn Kaew"? Pha means cliff in Thai, Sorn means to hide, and Kaew mean glass or crystal ball. The villagers said they saw a crystal ball floating in the sky and it went into a cave in the cliff and it did not appear again. So, it has been called that ever since.

This temple is a Buddhist pilgrimage destination, but if you are not Buddhist, it's no problem. This temple has the elegant architecture, with a pagoda built from colorful glass mosaics. It is a charm that attracts tourists.

Near the spectacular pagoda is a chapel called Five Buddha Viharn. It was built to celebrate the occasion of the 85th birthday of His Majesty King Rama 9. You can walk inside of Viharn to worship the holy Buddha and donate money to the temple.

Khao Kho Wind Farm

The trip from Wat Phra Thart Pha Sorn Kaew to Khao Kho Wind Farm is about 30 minutes by car. Here you'll find an electric power source developed into a sightseeing spot. We stopped for a while and went to close up the wind turbines on a distant hill and took some photos.

Pino Latte Khao Kho

Pino Latte is a coffee shop where you can drink delicious coffee with a panoramic view from the chicly decorated shop.
