After we visited the Narai-juku Post Town, we headed to Matsumoto City to stay 1 night. We drove about 1 hour, and before we checked in at the hotel, we stopped at the beautiful Matsumoto Castle.
Matsumoto Castle
Matsumoto castle is the oldest castle in Japan and is located in Matsumoto City of Nagano Prefecture, Japan. It is one of five castles designated as National Treasures of Japan. The structure of the castle is built of wood without using any nails. Matsumoto Castle is also known as Kurasu-jo or "Crow Castle" because of its elegant black and white design.
This time I can't show you the interior of the castle because it was closed when we came here so I only have photos of the outside and surrounding area of the castle. The castle grounds are open 24 hours and you can visit anytime. There's a different atmosphere and view in each of the four seasons.
This is a vending machine that has Matsumoto castle painted on it.
If you come at the regular time not far from the castle is a souvenir street. You can stroll and buy something from Matsumoto there.

Recommended budget hotel
We stayed at Hotel M Matsumoto (budget hotel). It was quite cheap and in a good location, not far from Matsumoto Station and restaurants. It has been open since April, and has capsule rooms and private rooms. The pictures below are our tiny but comfortable room which includes amenities such as pajamas, towels, cream, lotions etc. We fell in love with the shower because it was so relaxing. Can you believe it? After the trip my friend bought a new shower head like the one in the hotel. Lol
You can enjoy Japanese comics in the lobby for free, as well as free Wi-Fi.

We didn't have much food during the day, just some snacks. For dinner we had a big meal at a Japanese all-you-can-eat grilled meat place (The time limit is 90 minutes). My friend recommended this restaurant because she has been there before, but a different branch. She said it's yummy.
If you come to Nagano prefecture, don't miss visiting the magnificent Matsumoto Castle. You won't regret it.
