The Gorgeous Japan Alps of Kamikochi.

September 2019 · 3 min read · Nagano Prefecture

During the long holiday in August, my friend and I visited Nagano, in the Chubu region of Japan. For this trip we decided to rent a car and my friend drove. I took the Kintetsu Limited Express train from Osaka and met her in Nagoya. It took about 2 hours and cost 4,260 JPY. This was the best way and the most reasonable price for me. But there are the other ways to reach Nagoya such as plane, bullet train, and bus. The bullet train is the fastest way but it's kind of expensive.

Kamikochi

Kamikochi is located in Chubu Sangaku National Park in Nagano, Japan. It's open from around mid / late April to the middle of November. Hiking and walking are popular here, and there are recommended trails for everyone from beginners to professional hikers. You can find more details at the link.

Komichichi is not allowed the private transfer to enter in the national park, so I suggest the public transportation. We drove a car to the nearest parking as Sawando station and took a public coach, the fee is 1,250 JPY/one way and 2,050 JPY/round trip. About 25 minutes, we arrived Taisho pond that it is the first spot.

Due to the eruption of Mt. Yakedake in 1915, the Azusa River was blocked, forming Taisho Pond. The surface of the pond reflects the trees and mountains around it, making the landscape look magnificent at this famous sightseeing spot in Kamikochi. One activity to recommend in summer is a rental boat, if you can paddle. I think you will have fun and be deeply impressed with the atmosphere.

Kappa Bridge is a suspension bridge over the Azusa River. It is near the tourist center, hotels, restaurants, souvenir shops and not far from the bus terminal. This spot is a highlight of Kamikochi. You can see it with a spectacular view of the Hotaka mountain range in the background.

Kamikochi is a famous hiking area and sightseeing spot for both Japanese and foreigners. This was my second time there, and I was still very impressed with the natural beauty. Even though I visited in summer, it wasn't hot, as there was always a gentle breeze and the shade of the tall trees. It isn't open all year, so please check the official information before coming.

Kamikochi has many interesting places to explore and activities for a great experience on your trip to Japan. I will show you more in the next post!
