Early Fall Travels to Bend

Early Fall Travels to Bend

October 2019 · 3 min read

My trips to Bend are usually for the mundane purpose of shopping, Costco/Safeway and such. Every so often though I do go just for the fun of it and to explore. :) There is a myriad of things to do in and around Bend, but today I will be concentrating on a couple early fall trips I have taken over the last couple years.

Drake Park Downtown Area

These first photos are from a visit in early October of last year. I decided to take a walk around Drake Park that is on the banks of The Deschutes River that runs through the heart of Bend.

This first image is the backside of the town that borders the park. Some very colorful buildings here.

From the edge of the park you can see the Deschutes River and the houses on the opposite bank. This part of the river has a small dam on it and the resulting calm water is called Mirror Pond. Aptly named I say. :) Also, Mirror Pond is one of the beers made at the nearby Deschutes Brewery.

Another shot across Mirror Pond to the houses that line the opposite shore.

A shot of the various species of trees beginning to make their change.

Berries galore! I have no idea what they are but they are definitely abundant. :)

North End of the Old Mill District

These are from the first couple days of fall this year.

Even though fall has just arrived you can see some of the trees are already beginning their change. In the distance you can see two of The Three Sisters peaks in the Cascade Mountain Range.

More colors along the road.

So even though it is technically a fall day it is still warm enough to do a little river surfing. :)

A Trip to the Bend Fall Festival

This first shot is from the drive from my house into Bend. A stop to get a pano of some of the peaks in the Cascades.

A shot down one of the main streets that was closed down for the festival.

A look at the main stage where there are groups playing music all day into the night.

A shot of the old Tower Theater.

And here is a shot (taken by AW10. ?) of the same area from the 1940's. Photo hanging in McMenamins, Bend.

And finally what festival would be complete without a cold Mirror Pond from Brother John's. :)
