Old-timers houses of the village Rokytne

December 2019 · 3 min read · Birky Rural Council

... They live after their owners are gone forever ... Old-timer houses of Rokytne village, which is a pearl of Lviv region in Ukraine. It is only 25 km from the city of Lviv, and the Carpathian Mountains is far away, but people talk about this village - the little Carpathians :)

I came to visit my parents who live here alone. And I walk 3 km from the highway to visit them. Houses stand by the side of the road and they are like my old friends.
They are mostly made of wood and each is beautiful. If they could tell ... Everyone knows the history of the people, who lived here.

Here, this cozy one stands by the road and looks like a grandmother's house, where you can relax and warm up at the stove :)

This one looks like a forester's house. Above it hangs mighty spruce trees, which know a lot about the lives of the people who lived here ... Later, a friend of mine bought this land with this house, but his dream of making a new vacation home was not fulfilled. Apparently, the ancestral spirits did not like it, and the old-timer house continues to live as if waiting for its owner ...

Near it flows a small clear stream from the spring and above it is a bridge that is holey and mossy. I feel as if I've gotten into an old museum.

I go on enjoying the clean air. And there are no people around, like no one lives here. A warm day in the winter fascinates with its freshness. The snow fell and thawed, leaving white patterns in the fields. Red viburnum berries attract me against the background of green fir trees. I know that soon I will see another house on a hill ...

No one has lived here for a long time, and young people do not have the money to build a new home. Earth is waiting for someone to dismantle and bury this well-deserved old-timer to rejoice the new people who will settle here ...

And now I am approaching the place where a new wooden house is visible and it is the beginning of a new life of the old village!
