Our fourth day in Bolivia is coming to an end, and we haven't told you anything good about this country yet. At the beginning I complained a bit about Bolivia and I will continue to complain - because I do not tolerate children forced to work and littering people, but there are also the first positives of staying in Bolivia.
And so the biggest BOMB so far was Potosi. It is located at an altitude of over 4000 m above sea level. which makes it the highest city in the world, but that's not all.
The Cerro Rico peak, or the Rich Mountain, towers over the city. This name is not accidental, because huge deposits of silver were discovered here in the 16th century. The massive influx of people meant that in the 17th century it was the largest city in America, and its wealth is evidenced by architectural monuments that have survived to this day. Cerro Rico was so rich that it gave into the world more than 60,000 tons of silver from its depths, which would be enough to produce 2 large rings for every inhabitant of the earth, and at the current price of silver it would be 180 billion zlotys. Not a little ... At a time when the mine was operating at full capacity between the 16th and 18th centuries, this mine produced 80% of the world's silver extraction.
Unfortunately, there are even more incredible numbers behind these great mind-blowing silver mining figures. There are sources that estimate the death toll related to the Potosi mine at 8 million souls. These are victims who died as a result of exhausting slave labor in the mine, accidents in the mine, diseases or poisoning with mercury used in the production of silver. All this meant that the Rich Mountain is now more often called "the Mountain that eats people."

Kończy się nasz czwarty dzień spędzony w Boliwi, a jeszcze nic dobrego o tym kraju Wam nie powiedzieliśmy. Na początku trochę narzekałem na Boliwię i będę narzekał dalej - bo dzieci zmuszonych do pracy i śmiecących ludzi nie toleruję, ale są też pierwsze pozytywy pobytu w Boliwii.

Nad miastem góruje szczyt Cerro Rico, czyli Bogata Góra. Nazwa ta nie jest przypadkowa, ponieważ w XVI w. odkryto tu ogromne złoża srebra. Masowy napływ ludności spowodował, że w XVII wieku było to największe miasto Ameryki, a o jego bogactwie świadczą zachowane do dziś zabytki architektury. Cerro Rico była tak bogata, że ze swoich czeluści wydała na świat ponad 60000 ton srebra, co wystarczyłoby na wyprodukowanie 2 dużych pierścionków dla każdego mieszkańca ziemi, a w przeliczeniu na złotówki przy obecnej cenie srebra byłoby to 180 miliardów złotych. Nie mało… W czasach gdy kopalnia funkcjonowała na pełnych obrotach pomiędzy 16 a 18 wiekiem kopalnia ta produkowała 80 % światowego wydobycia srebra.
Niestety za tymi wielkimi oszałamiającymi liczbami wydobycia srebra stoją jeszcze bardziej niewiarygodne liczby. Są źródła, które szacują liczbę ofiar śmiertelnych związanych z kopalnią w Potosi na 8 milionów dusz. Są to ofiary które zmarły w skutek wycieńczającej niewolniczej pracy w kopalni, wypadków w kopalni, chorób czy zatrucia rtęcią używanej przy produkcji srebra. To wszystko sprawiło, że obecnie Bogata Góra nazywana jest częściej „Górą, która zjada ludzi.”
