Our Life Story | Chapter 11 – How this trip will change our life!

Now, back to our travel story…

The beautiful beach of ”Klein Curacao”
The beautiful beach of ”Klein Curacao”

It was in 2013 that Sacha and I first visited Curacao, some friends of us live there and we decided to combine a visit and a well-deserved holiday on a sunny tropical island.

“For those who don’t know, Curacao is a pretty small island in the Caribbean above Venezuela. Until 2010 Curacao was a part of the Dutch Antilles which was dissolved in 2010. This is when all the islands in the Dutch Antilles became their own country within The Kingdom of the Netherlands. This explains why most people on Curacao speak Dutch but the native language is Papiamento.”

Some of the first things we noticed after landing at the airport is that everybody is relaxed. No skipping in lines or annoyed people because of another delay or even cranky customs employees.

People smiling the whole day trough!

And why wouldn’t you? If you live on an always warm and sunny island where you have that holiday feeling all year round.

And let’s not forget about the food….. Oh man,…. Been missing that food since the day we left there. Curacao is well known for the small roadside food trucks (called: “snacks”) scattered throughout the whole island.

Food trucks are called ”truki pan”

And man, They can Cook!

South American, European or African food, The food served in Curacao is a melting pot of a lot of different cultures and influences over the years.

In one word: Delicious!

Bananasoup, so delicious!

We were lucky to have good friends on the island which we’re helpful enough to drive us around the whole island for the time we stayed there.

We hiked the enormous Mount Christoffel! ( lol, its just 372 mtrs above sea level) But it sure made us sweat in the burning sun. Definitely worth the drops of sweat if you ever have the chance to visit.

Well?!? Wouldn’t this make you want to move?

Well that’s just what we thought, Our seed was planted…

During this trip, we started thinking about the way we live our lives in The Netherlands. It’s not that we don’t enjoy it, but we somehow believe things could even be better! Curacao has the tendency to shake off the stress and give a feeling that you don’t always have to be busy, or work hard.

Sometimes RELAXING is a good thing

This is something I struggle with at times, feeling that the time goes by too fast and I constantly feel I have to do things to be productive. We believe this move to Curacao will do wonders for our mindfulness.

Our time of preparation has nearly come to an end, it’s time to do this!
