Olango Island Wildlife Sanctuary

Olango Island Wildlife Sanctuary

July 2020 · 2 min read · Cebu

Take time to relax in this kind of view that you will see in a matter of an hour's distance from Cebu city. From Cebu, you can either take your own vehicle, though you need to leave it in Punta Engano because you need to take a local boat (RORO boat as they call it)heading to the island. You can also take a taxi until Punta Engano (same as a privately owned vehicle)that you have to leave there and hop in roro boat to take you to the island. Or commute by means of the jeepney. For commuters like us, it took around 40 minutes to get to the pier and another less than an hour getting to olango. By the time we visited here, we paid 20 pesos one-way fare for each person. That was the year 2015, by now perhaps some changes are being made already. I can not recall anymore how much we paid as our entrance per person once we got there. It is advisable that you go there before 11:00 in the morning so that the water is not yet rising and so you can head to the place where you can search or look for birds around using their provided telescope ( I can not recall if it was free of charge or not ). If you come on the advised time, surely you will have no difficulty in roaming around or doing your wanders because it is still fewer people around. There are local fishermen around too which sold seafood which themselves catches, you can ask for it to be cooked and you pay the cost per kilo. While eating your seafood, you can touch the water or swim provided you just stay nearby the mini cottage. Water is just so clear that it makes you forget for a while your city life.
