As promised in my last Sunday Golden Hour post, today, I am going to tell you more about the place that we have just relocated to. The place is called the Azores but if the name doesn´t ring a bell, you don´t really need to feel ashamed. Situated some 1,360 km (850 mi) west of continental Portugal in the North Atlantic Ocean, the Azores are remote volcanic islands that many people (even in Europe) still don´t know about.
The Portuguese archipelago consists of nine islands and we picked Sao Miguel, the largest of them, as our new temporary home. We have only been here a few days so we are still just figuring things out for the most part but I have already managed to explore the surroundings of our house a bit and even though I have seen just a tiny fraction of what the island has to offer, I can already confirm that the rumors about the breathtaking natural beauties of the Azore Islands don´t exaggerate at all. Unaffected by the mass tourism (yet), the islands might well be one of the last strongholds of pristine nature and wilderness in Europe and I cannot wait to see more of it.
Let me now show you just a little photo sample of what the landscape looks like around our house in a remote part of the Sao Miguel Island.
