Cityscape Photography: skyline of Boston, Massachusetts

August 2018 · 3 min read · Boston

Hi there my Steemit friends and followers!

During my big American trip back in 2010, I also spent a couple of days in Boston, Massachusetts but for some reason, I have not posted about this magnificent city here on Steemit yet. Well, the reason actually might the extremely poor quality of the photos that I took there but I am still going to show you some of them today as it would be shame not to dedicate at least one little post to Boston, one of the historically most important cities in the U.S.

Back then, I did not have the faintest idea of what photography is about, I was "armed" with a miserable camera borrowed from my friend that might have been actually older than me (the camera, not the friend) and I now only have low resolution Facebook copies of the original (but still poor) photos so please take this into consideration before you start tearing these images to shreds :D

Boston skyline captured from one of the city´s park. The tall tower in the middle is the John Hancock Tower (colloquially known just as "The Hancock").

Close-up of the tower. Completed in 1976, the 60-story tower stands 240 m (790 ft) tall and it was named after John Hancock, the prominent American businessman and patriot who became famous for his unusually large and conspicuous signature on the Declaration of Independence.

Panoramic view of the city as captured from a bridge (over the Charles River I suppose). As far as I remember, I took this shot while walking from the city center to the Harvard University. It was just some 5 km (3 mi) but whenever I asked someone if I was going in the right direction, they could not believe I was going to walk all the way there. Even when I was already just a few blocks from the university, I was still recommended to take a subway or a cab by everyone. Obviously, walking is not (or was not) a popular activity in Boston :D

I also passed by the famous Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), a very prestigious private research university founded in 1861. It was open so I went in to use the bathroom. Yeah, even the bathroom looked noble and very prestigious :D

I wish I took more photos in Boston but those 8 years ago, I was not really into photography at all. I just remember the city was really beautiful and clean and it had a unique, somewhat historic atmosphere. It was different from other U.S. metropolises that I visited during the trip. Sometimes, it just feels like I should go and visit all those places again and capture the memories in photos so that I can keep them forever.

Anyway, I hope you liked this little tour around Boston. The first photo is also my entry for today´s #cityscapephotography contest hosted by @juliank.
