My entry for People Photography by @worldcapture, week 53

January 2020 · 2 min read · Havana

Hi there my Steemian friends and followers!

The special 1 year anniversary round of the People Photography contest hosted by our and only @worldcapture is over (you might want to check out the winning selection of this round though, it was really outstanding) and it is my pleasure to submit an entry to the 53rd weekly round of the challenge today.

This time around, my entry will take you to the bustling Cuban metropolis of Havana. I have already dedicated a bunch of posts to the fancy classic cars that are still roaring around the Cuban streets but today, being it a contribution to the People Photography challenge, I will show you some people of Havana :)

All of these shots were taken in the historic center of the city that is known as Habana Vieja (meaning Old Havana in English). The third photo captures Bodeguita del Medio, one of the most popular bars in the city and an iconic tourist spot. Opened in 1942, the bar is considered the birthplace of Mojito, the famous cocktail made from white rum, sugar, soda water, lime and mint. The bar has been visited by many personalities, most notably writers and artists such as Pablo Neruda, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Augustin Lara and others. Some sources claim that Ernest Hemingway was also a reular visitor to Bodeguita del Medio but he is mostly associated with the nearby bar La Floridita where he even has a life size bronze statue that was installed at his favorite spot by the bar.
