We have a good tradition with our classmates. After we have successfully completed it, we meet every year. We will choose a place where we have not been before, plan hiking trails for three days and go. It was the same now.
We chose Fiľakovo for our meeting, where we also booked accommodation. This not a big city is located in the south of Slovakia. The first historical mention dates back to 1246.
I get on the train and get off on the railway platform in a few hours. I'm here first and another classmate in a few hours. I walk around the railway line through the park to stay. I want to stay quickly so that I can go and see the dominant feature of the city - the castle Fiľakovo.
The ruins of the castle walls could tell their story. They performed their role conscientiously and in 1242 they resisted the Tatar invaders. They later intensified them as the Ottoman threat approached. The castle could not withstand it and for 39 years it became the seat of the Fiľak Sandžak.
The castle was recaptured by Austrian imperial troops, but soon fell again into the hands of Bočkajov troops. There were several uprisings against the emperor in Hungary. During the largest of them - the Rákoczi Uprising, the city was occupied by imperial troops. Fiľakovo became the place where military actions against the insurgents were conducted.
During Tököli's anti-Habsburg uprising, the castle was attacked by insurgents in 1678, but the castle was not conquered. It was not until four years later that the insurgents conquered it with the help of 60,000 Ottomans. The castle burned down and since then it has been rampant.
I had plenty of time to take pictures of the castle until a classmate came. We do not enter inside until the next day.
At the gate we were greeted by a castle cannon, which recalls the difficult battles that once took place here.
The castle has been partially renovated and houses a museum. It houses artifacts that have been found around the city.
I was fascinated by the majesty of the walls. Even though they are destroyed, they make a wonderful impression on me.
We enter the tower from where there is a nice view of the city. Like the castle, the city had its fortifications.
We walked across the castle. They looked at the museum collection. We got acquainted with the rich history of this place.
We leave the castle for richer knowledge and experiences.
well thank you
