Trip to Warsaw - 1.day

May 2020 · 3 min read · Warsaw

We did not choose the capital of Poland for a holiday by chance. My wife and I were expecting a baby and we didn't want to go on vacation to the sea. We picked up an atlas and since we love history and didn't want to travel far, it was quickly decided.

We got in the car and in seven hours we parked in front of the accommodation.
It was already evening, so we quickly unpacked our things and went to walk and see how we got to the city. The center was about a 20-minute walk away.

At home, we planned the program in detail for each day. We wanted to see as much of the city as possible.

We get up around eight in the morning. It may be too late for tourists, but we are still on vacation and you have to relax on it.

It is the first day and our goal is the old town. First we go to see the guess the biggest monument of the city and that is the Royal Palace. As we expected, they are at the treasury of the council. Fortunately, it goes fast and we enter the bottom in a moment.

The royal palace is truly royal. Beautifully decorated rooms. One more beautiful than the other. Decorated tables, coffee tables, beds, clocks ... and majestic paintings adorn this historic place.

The palace was completely destroyed during World War II. In fact, the entire old town was destroyed. The war was followed by the renewal of the city and it definitely succeeded.

We leave the palace and our steps lead to one of the many buffets. It won't let us taste the jam. In Warsaw, they offer it together with waffles at every turn. Good thing we went under the tent. It frowned and took a little shower. Well, by the time we finished, the clouds were gone and we could continue the tour.

We walk through the historic streets, around the Archcathedral Basilica of Saint John the Baptist and enter the breathtaking square. It's called Old town market square (Rynek starego miasta).

This square, which is full of tourists and restaurants, is dominated by a statue of Siren located in the middle.

Our steps continue further through the streets to the castle fortifications of the city. The walls and the barbican in ancient times defended this city.

At present, they are only a tourist attraction and a reminder of how important this city was on the Vistula River even in the time of the kings of Mazovia.

We walk around the walls and come to the Little Insurgent Monument. It is a reminder of the fighting of the Warsaw Uprising during the Second World War.

Time has advanced, and we are going to the accommodation, to get some rest. Today we went through what we wanted.

Well thank you.
