Trip to Warsaw - 3.day - Lazienki park

May 2020 · 3 min read · Warsaw

During the previous two days, we got to know the city center and its wider surroundings. Today we want to visit Lazienki park, or if you want Lazienky Królewskie.

We go to the nearest bus stop and get on the bus. The path we are taking is not completely unknown to us. We followed her when we came to Warsaw. The bus turns towards the river and is soon stopped at a stop where we have to get off. We use modern technology and follow GPS on mobile phones.

We enter the park through one of several entrance gates. Lazienki Park is the largest park in Warsaw. Its area is 76 hectares. No wonder there are several access roads to it. We come to the information board. The park is really large and in order not to miss anything, in addition to the tourist map of Warsaw, which we have with us, we also take a map of Lazienki Park.

We have orientated ourselves and we can continue. The path we go along is lined with old trees and mown grass. It doesn't take long and we come to the first building in the park. At first glance, it reminds me of an old Greek temple.

This place is directly littered with historical monuments. During the walk we see the Old Orangery, where citrus fruits grown, the theater or the Myślewicky Palace.

I was personally interested in, among other things, the statues that serve as lamps for public lighting.

However, the largest monument in the park is the Palace on the island.

It's really beautiful, so I take pictures of it from all sides.

I immediately imagine how the Polish king went here to rest and relax. This place is perfect for that. Water, trees, peace and quiet all around.

No wonder the park was an important cultural center during the reign of King Stanislav August Poniatowski, where he invited various artists and scholars.

It is astonishing that the German army tried to destroy this amazing place during the Second World War. As they retreated, they set fire to the palace and drilled holes in the walls to store dynamite. However, they did not succeed. And that's good, whether for the people of Warsaw who go here to relax, or go to concerts, or for tourists like me who go to admire these cultural monuments.
