Travel Norway #27 - Autumn in Sylan mountains- snow and reindeers

September 2019 · 4 min read · Tydal

Hi there Friends!

Today I want to take You on a short trip to Sylan mountains. We will see the first snow, autumnal colours and meet wild reindeers... Let's go! :)

Weather forecast was bad since the beginning, all 120 km I drove in a heavy rain, almost no chances for sun... but I had to go... it was my only free day and only one oportunity to escape from house ;).

Maybe You think I am crazy - to drive 140km one way, to eat some sandwitches in a car, watching the melting snow in a front glass, foggy autumnal landscape, listening to music... being alone high in the mountains... or maybe You think like me - that such moments are magical and we have to catch them for all costs...

Sylan mountains are situated in the middle Norway, on the swedish borderland. It is quite big, deserted area, situated in an open plateau. I presented the place many times before on my blog so I won't write the full details and just go for the subject to show You what kind of landscapes I found there...

In the beginning I didn't expect to see the snow, it was lying down covering the ground and trees in higher parts.

On my way up I met a small herd of reindeers not all of them were wild, these once were "farm" ones.

Beautiful autumnal colours were already there, in the valley below, still most of the trees and vegetation was green that day.

I was trying to catch some motives but with such a boring sky, it was a hard task...

What I loved was the minimalistic but very contrasted look of colorful trees on the white snowy background...

Quite unique landscapes...

As You already seen I shot many panoramas, I was looking for something interesting, trying to catch the bigger picture of the whole landscape there... panoramic shots are not maybe the best way to present landscape in a web, because the pictures are reduced to small size, but if I am looking at them on full screen on my big screen - they are really making a big impresion!

Another interesting motive which I shot was the motive of road...

The weather was dark, moody and atmospheric, the way I followed was the only strong element in a landscape around.

Look at these few shots and tell me what You think!

I love the dark mood of these ones!

I reach the tourist center but the snow was so strong that I didn't even go out to shoot it...
I decided to slowly go back, after few hours I had enough of cold, deserted landscapes, my shoes and trousers were soaking wet.
This was an extreme day for shooting outdoors but I think I managed to take few nice shots.

I ate another sandwitches, finish my Yerba Mate and took a way back home.
That time I was really sick, took an antibiotics so I was feeling very weak and slippy.
But I had to visit such place to load my inner batteries...

On my way back I met another herd of reindeers, most of them looked like wild ones...

Below few more shots which I dodn't present before.

I hope You enjoyed watching and reading.

I have a great news - I am waiting for my new camera - new camera means a lot of new energy to try it out so expect more stuff soon!

I will write something more about my new gear as soon I will get it.
