In August 2017, my pal @danielw and I have spent 8 days in the saddle, traveling the total of 541 km while exploring the wonderful Dalmatia region. The location, briefly described below, is only one of the amazing destinations we have managed to visit during our tour.

Our vision

We are working hard on the knowledge base for travelers from all around the world (especially bikers). We will be delivering content that is both informative and entertaining. That includes (but is not limited to) handy tips on: how to service your bike and what tools to use, what to take with you on your trip, how to find free/cheap accommodation and washing facilities, what to eat during the trip to keep up the pace, where to cross country borders etc.

We are committed to making this our full time jobs and since we are passionate about it, we believe we can build a strong community behind our vision.

If you like to find out more and support us in our mission, you can go to our projects page on Fundition.io and/or check the latest project update.

Trpanj

Trpanj is a small, quiet town located in the longest peninsula in the whole Croatia - Pelješac (roughly 65 km) and situated between the Korčula and Mljet islands. Despite being the biggest one in the area, it only has about 900 inhabitants (as of 2001).

Fact: A remedial mud peloid occurs in the imminent bay, which is often used to prevent and heal diseases related to the motor and nervous systems.

Directions

Take the state road D8 south/north from Rijeka to Dubrovnik and drive until you reach the D414 road intersection (approximately 560th kilometer of the D8 road). Then head towards Ston, take the D415 road right, and drive all the way up to Trpanj.

Alternatively, if you are traveling from the northern Croatia, you can take a ferry that leaves from Ploče.

Camping

The nearest camping is located at Camping Vrila - a truly quiet and back to nature place.

I personally, after having a talk with a local guy (who by the way said he has not seen a biker to appear in the area for years now), decided to ditch the idea for a legal camping, and pitched the tent in the best spot I have encountered during the whole trip.

The church sheltered us from the incredibly hot sun for the whole morning :)

Points of Interest

The area, due to it's extraordinary climate and lush flora, is full of local wineries. In the matter of fact, the famous red wine Postup is being produced in Orebić, which is located only a couple kilometers from Trpanj. If you are a wine person, I highly encourage you to try out what the locals have to offer.

Trpanj is also the home for the Feast of the Assumption festival, a traditional annual celebration. We were lucky enough to accidentally visit the town during that time of a year. In 2018, it is scheduled to start off on August the 17th and if you will get a chance to be there, I recommend you try ćevapčići, a traditional dish made of grilled, minced meat.
