The Brown headed barbet is an small barbet which is smaller than your hand a few centimeters (18-25 cms) in length and weighs less than 0.2 kgs

Till last year I had never seen or actually observed that these green barbets with brown head really existed. They always choose trees with large leaves size, which would be enough to cover and hide them. The body color matches with the tress leaves which they choose to stay.
The Barbet does not build a nest, instead they stay in holes in trees. The steam of the tree color and the brown head color of the bird matches a lot and its almost undetectable if not observed closely.
Here is my story with the pictures I captured of the Brown headed Green Barbet.
I lived in a second floor and we had a huge tree behind our house. The second floor window was so close to the tree that we can actually see squirrels jumping on window from the tree branches.
That is where i spotted my life's first Brown headed and green bodied barbet. And often the green is a color of nature and is always attractive.
The barbet had made its hole in the tree and was peeping outside. It looked so matching with the trees brown skin and the barbets head, matched exactly. I followed its routine daily and wanted to shoot it secretly
The barbet starts peeping outside from the hole and waits till it feels safe to come out of the hole and sit one a branch.

Do you know what it does after coming on the branch ? I watches again at the hole, is anyone approaching the hole ? was it a safe exit ? It flies away for its work only after feeling comfortable that no one has noticed it come out.
It flies out for its business and while coming back. It stops at a branch from where it can get a clear view of the hole and all branches. Only after getting confirmed no one is watching, it flies back to the hole nest.

I sat for an hour waiting for it to come out and fly back into the hole. Lack of experience and no better camera and evening lights, did not allow me to take a good picture of the bird spread her feathers and fly. Finally those were the pictures you are watching.
I could have made a better seating and fun watching other species and it's way of life for survival.
