Why is MG Road famous from ages ?

  • The MG Road was the only place in Bangalore to host branded showrooms in 1980s and 90s, until the shopping malls started the new culture. The rich shopping experience was followed by the posh pub culture, which could not be replaced even today.
I remember, it was always a fantasy spot for all the new comes to Bengaluru including me.

One Incident each from 2002 and 2006

  • 2002 When I visited Bengaluru for the first time in my life for Republic Day parade at Maniksha Parade ground, me and my friend had jumped the compounds of the parade ground just see how the MG road looks like. We even ate Chicken kabab at a food court which is not seen now.
  • 2006 I had joined my engineering in Bengaluru by then and we had sneaked out of our hostel to experience the night life. After 1:00 AM, we saw all the rick kids and dads come out here with their exotic cars and use to race. One close witness was the Hayabusa, didn’t have a camera phone to click a photograph with the super bike. The restaurants were open till 3:00 AM and it was great.

2010 I started my first job in Chennai but my weekends were in Bengaluru all the time. From then on, I have been travelling these roads often. May be the Road has lost its charm coz of the shopping malls and new commercial centers planned around the city, the new year celebrations are always here. Not too many hidden facts, but the memories are great in here.
