Visiting the "Turtle Island"

Visiting the "Turtle Island"

December 2019 · 3 min read · Bali

I went to the "turtle island" yesterday with some clients from Bulgaria. This is not the real turtle island, but it's a turtle breeding farm located in Tanjung Benoa, Bali. From long time ago, people call it the "turtle island.", not sure why. Lost in translation?

Anyway, I jumped on a glass bottom boat run by local company which provide many different water sport activities on the sea located in Tanjung Benoa. Then this motor-powered-boat sail through the blue waves to the sea. There were many other boats on the sea. Some boats pulled para gliders, and some pulled banana boats. There were also people who drove jet ski in the beach. It should be great doing that, that's why I thought while voyaging on the boat.

On boat ride to the "turtle island", I saw some people were paragliding on the sea.

After boating for 5 minutes, we stopped on the sea. The clients had some bread that they brought from their hotel to feed fish. As we throw the bread to the sea, colorful fish appear in the water. They were really beautiful fish.

Fish feeding with bread had been done for years in this sea and considered a safe to do for the environment or the fish.

After about 10 minutes, we continued our boat journey. We were in east side of the bay, while the "turtle island" is located on the west side. So, we went north toward the sea, then turn west, and finally turn south again to reach the west side of the bay.

The boats stopped on the beach. We hopped out of the boat to the shore to the turtle farm.

The turtle farm, which managed by the local, had many pools for turtles of different age. The turtles were from 0 years old (egg) until 70 years old. So, they told me. My impression is that this turtle farm is more geared to attract visitors, as there were many tourists coming here. Mostly local tourists from Indonesia.

The turtle farm was decorated to be more appealing to visitors. There was even a place fore selfie photo.

We stayed there for half an hour before departing from "the turtle island" to the "main island of Bali".
