This Mayan girl selling necklaces on the street in Antigua stole my heart. She was impossible to say no to and literally the best salesperson I've ever met. I guess you learn quick and have to acquire a healthy dose of salesmanship to really do well selling on the streets. I think she'll go far.

Had to cut this picture down for the first one to not wreck the thumbnail, Sorry to double picture you :)

Guatemala is home to many different communities of Mayans. Each has their own colors and designs that they make into all their clothes. You can always tell what village they are from based on their colorful clothing.

Most of the necklaces she's carrying are not handmade here in Antigua, but the beautiful scarfs she's selling are handmade by the people in her village. These textiles are what they are known for.

Above is the famous Arch in Antigua where the fist picture was taken. If you look up Antigua this is the picture and area you will see most. However, the whole city is just as beautiful and has dozens of spots with great architecture. In fact just behind me when I took this photo was the Convent of La Merced which is also a beautiful yellow color.

There was a wedding going on this day at La Merced. It was decorated fully with a festival like feel as cotton candy was being made and fresh home made caramel and other fried treats were being made to sell. There were games for the kids and lots of infections laughing. I remember being amazed at the women in super high heels walking on these cobblestone streets.

The history of Antigua, Guatemala is extremely interesting. Check out the Wikipedia Page for some detailed info and interesting reading.
